1. Running power plays from 4 WR sets?

2. Play action passes?

3. No huddle?

4. Reverses?

5. QB runs?

I guess all offenses are "gimmicky" to some extent. I've seen the Denver Broncos use all the above- and yes, Peyton Manning scored a TD on a QB boot this season.

5. Maybe it's just called a "gimmick" when the other team does it.

Apparently one that goes fast, is highly effective, and scores a lot of points.

Not drunk.

I enjoy playmakers like JFF.

I guess he's a gimmick, but I would take that gimmick all day.

Gimmicky or Backyard football - Its what you see Boise State do when they know that they are over matched -

Its not the SEC line them up run it down your throat try to stop me, I'm running it straight at you, big boy football yo mama warned you about -

I will use the old Auburn as an example - Bo Jackson would see someone in the way and run straight through them or carry them into the endzone with him. Because he was MAN - Pat Dye coached boys to be Men not pussyfoot around with gimicks

FYI - 'New Auburn' is doing this also.

Any offense that beats your team by any means except by running the ball

I don't think you can really call an entire offense gimmicky, but I do think there are some gimmicky play callers out there, or coaches with a gimmicky philosophy. Mike Leach throwing the ball 80 times and running it once in a game is kind of gimmicky. Using a bunch of trick plays in an attempt to score cheap touchdowns versus a superior team is kind of gimmicky too.

The only trick play that I have seen Gus use consistently in both stints at AU has been the unexpected onside kick with the kicker trailing the ball and recovering it.

When you run formations and plays that are unconventional and they are the only ones that produce. If you have to run reverses and flea flickers just to get first downs then you are gimmicky. Hurry up is not a gimmick. Play action is not. Auburn lost the 2009 Iron Bowl because they ran out of gimmicks and had to play straight up.

No Auburn lost the 2009 Iron Bowl because the defense under Chiz and Roof was straight up garbage from day 1. I would hardly call scoring on a reverse or a go route a gimmick
