Well, let's look at things...

Alabama has questions at offensive line, running back and quarterback. Each are unproven and there's not much experience at any. BUT, they return the best defense in college football and will be hard to score on. They also have a lot of talent and experience at wide receiver and tight end, although it may not be showcased as much as hoped.

We might see another Alabama team like 2008, 2009 or 2011...when they relied on defense, a running game, and didn't put too much trust in the quarterback.

They can still win it all.

A down year for Alabama in this day and age is only winning an SEC Championship.

Recent history would say something like (regular season)-
1 loss- 65%
0 losses- 25%
2 or more losses- 10%

So not likely

Until they do, I'm not betting against them. That short fricker they got coaching that team seems to always find a way to be a top 5 team. The law of odds would tell you that gambling with a new QB every year will eventually bite you in the arse, but it has yet to happen to Bama so....

This year is supposed to be Alabama's year? This is one of the more unknown rosters Alabama has field under Nick Saban, IMO.
we return 1 fewer starter than last year, and 2 more on offense than last year. The teams that are supposed to beat us this year are tenn, lsu, and ole miss. Tenn returns 1 fewer started than last year, lsu is returning 1 more, and ole miss is returning like 7 fewer than last year. On paper this is probably sabans most talented team ever, we could field an defense that starts exclusively former 5 stars if we wanted, have 2 former 5 star rbs vying for the job, have an insanely deep group of offensive linemen, wrs, etc, etc. We return almost all of our interception and sack production on defense, will have the best secondary and linebacker groups in the sec. Chances are higher for us to go undefeated and win the championship than to lose 3 games

Alabama has several key items those teams did not in the following years.

I think Alabama is due for a down year.

Honest to goodness, I read this every.single.year.

Why do people think this?

Is it because they are due? Nobody cares about due.
Is it because they lost so much? 7 straight #1 recruiting classes.

I can't possibly fathom why people feel like Alabama is not going to be good this year other than wishful thinking.

Agreed. Let's try a new subject.

Who is better? Chubb or Fournette?

Same threads, different day. Same ole thing at the Rant.

True. But talent, coaching, facilities etc does.

And, it makes more sense to say they are "due" for a down year?

Since we are going with a Freshman QB, we might lose 3

i think pretty good.

nothing against bama. This year just doesn't setup well for them.

unproven oline when you have pass rushers like Wise, garrett, lawson, barnett, on your schedule.

honestly, their pass protection was overrated last year and they lost Kelly from that group. they are going to struggle against teams that can put bama in third and long situations.

their defensive line might be the best they've had. Buti've never been impressed with foster he's got the football iq of sonic the hedgehog and nothing else proven

i love minkah but marlon can be picked on and isn't elite.

also breaking in a new D cord.

i'm also not in love with bo scarbrough, never have been.

i think the bama team is going to be like the 2010 team. talented as hell but a year away. and the is fricking brutal.

usc - loss. usc has the best WR 1-2 punch in hte country in juju and adoree and adoree is a shut down corner as well on defense. the defense won't be ready the first game for this type of talent. usc's pass defense will be good enough to make them one dimensional

western kentucky - win

ole miss - win. ole miss loses what made them a tough match, physical WR's and a elite left tackle. they are small up front and bama will just run it down their throats

kent state - win . interesting game. kent state might have the best non power 5 defense in the country. they also tight have the worst offense in the entire country. i could see this game being unusually tight, or 82 to 0.

kentucky - win. UK just doesn't have the hores in the trenches.

Arkansas - loss. arkansas will have a legit defense and is big enough to not be ran over. too many weapons at WR and will make bama run the ball to win which i dont' think they can do. low scoring game. sprinkle is a matchup nightmare for their lb's

tennessee - win. football is about the trenches and tennessee just doesn't' have the horses.

aggies - loss. that defense is going to be much improved, knight is a proven vet and teams that make bama play in space give them fits. they have no answer for kirk.

lsu - win. lsu is too small in the trenches, their o line is overrated and harris can't beat a legit team with his arm. you stop lf7 you stop lsu. you can run the ball down lsu's throat.

miss state - win but close game. msu's qb won't be good enough to win on his own and the defense whie good is not good enough to make bama a run only / pass only team

chattanoga - win

auburn - lol

I think very low. I could see them losing two games, though I hope their only loss is to LSU, obviously.
