CNN (I know) paints a pretty grim picture with some unpleasant quotes from the mayor about it getting worse before it gets better.

Sensationalist reporting or accurate?

im just following twitter and what is being reported is MUCH WORSE than what any south carolina fan is saying on here.

quote:

The structural integrity of the infrastructures in the area continue to buckle under the pressure of the still swirling waters. In Forest Acres, a dam burst, leading to a force evacuation for people living in an area near Trenholm Road up to Percival Road. Evacuees were sent over to A.C. Flora High School for shelter. Beaver Creek Dam in Wildewood and Upper Branch Dam in the northern part of the county also failed.

quote:

President Obama has declared eight South Carolina counties a federal disaster, including three in the Midlands: Lexington, Orangeburg, and Richland.

quote:

At least nine dams have breached or failed in South Carolina since Saturday, the state's emergency management agency said early Tuesday.

One failure, of the Overcreek dam in Richland County's Forest Acres, sent a torrent of floodwater raging downstream and forced evacuations near Columbia.

If they are having to bring water in for folks right now, dams are bursting, and the campus my be shut down the rest of the week, it seems unreasonable to play the game in Columbia. Unless we see a dramatic improvement in the situation in the next couple of days, hosting a football game would be unconscionable.

Just move the son of a bitch to Charlotte already. If they want to host so badly, let them get a home game next year.

God help us if LSU loses. Already seeing some posts on Tr blaming the SEC office for not mandating the game be moved to Baton Rouge. And there are a veritable flood of posts of Noah-biblical proportions, a complete 1000-year deluge of posts, washing Tiger indignation downstream, raining tears of outrage that the game is scheduled at 11AM in Columbia rather than in Baton Rouge.

Many other posts are informing everyone that: "no way..." "it is dangerous for us fans..." "issue isn't the flood, it is the flood's effects (no shite?)," "SEC office should just require the move," etc. Any moment now a post will appear claiming the SEC office in Birmingham is controlled by the REC and they are conspiring to ruin LSU's season.

If USC somehow wins, the SECr will explode with invective, blame, finger pointing, about "having to play in a flooded environment at 11 AM." Well, as much as I would hate losing that game, I suppose the reaction by some 'tards might be entertaining.

My real question is, why are a few expending so much energy on the internet campaigning to move the game to Baton Rouge when it isn't going to happen and they have no influence on any decision? It will just heighten the paranoia when the game is played as planned....

we have a lot of experience with hurricanes and football.

at this point, it's irresponsible to have the game in columbia. move it to charlotte or atlanta.

Maybe 5 posters.

You can get 5 posters on the tiger rant to bitch about literally anything.

Edit: Go look right now, there is a thread about how LF is too good, and is starting to draw attention away from the other players.

I drove 30 miles into work this morning, and my office is about 5 minutes from where the worst of the flooding has been. I had no issues getting here.

We know it is bad, but the entire city isn't paralyzed.

If the remaining dams fail, then the same area the flooded before will flood again. That would be horrible. The other biggest issue right now is the water system.

so let's say people starting flying into columbia and more dams fail... there's already a water advisory and tens of thousands without water and electricity.

and there's all of the emergency workers from 7 states helping along with 1300 national guard

and you think a football game attracting 100k+ people should be held in the city in 3 days?

The only thing I see stopping the game from being played is the water situation b/c I'm not sure if they'd be allowed to play the game if the stadium doesn't have clean water. The estimates I've heard are 3-4 days.

Sounds like some people think it'd be better to play the game in an empty stadium than just move it elsewhere. Within just a few hours' drive from Columbia there is the Georgia Dome (Falcons do have a home game Sunday, but the Dome has games on back to back nights all the time), Bobby Dodd Stadium (GA Tech plays at Clemson this week), and BOA Stadium (Panthers have a bye week). There is also the option of moving the game to Baton Rouge and donating all proceeds from the game to a flood relief program or directly back to the University of South Carolina. There are plenty of options to explore. LSU moved a game to Arizona at the last minute. It's unfortunate this happened, but this seems like it's getting a little ridiculous.

Maybe, just throwing this out...Columbia?

I havent seen any relocation of the game even approached except by LSU fans.

If this were Bama fans trying to get a game moved LSU fans would have a facebook page set up to try to uncover the SEC bias towards them. Go play the fricking game and quit being scared.

If LSU were to lose, THIS would be the culprit and Bama would be blamed because the Bama backed SEC refused to move the game. If USCe wins, watch this become a Bama conspiracy and I wish I wasn't serious. Good lord.

frick LSU fans. I hope it's as last minute of an announcement as possible and none of you can come. As for the football game, if it's here I'll have a great time I'm sure. But most people here don't have football at the front of their minds right now.

I almost wish it'd get canceled so you guys would have a 10-game season but that'd never happen unfortunately. LSU fans are some of the worst I've ever experience, and I've NEVER been to Baton Rouge. I'll never forget seeing LSU fans make fun of a 5 year old girl with her parents in a Gamecock cheerleading costume. Disgusting fans.
