8 wins every season?
10 wins every season?
Bowl game every season?
Win every game?
Compete for a national title every season?

IMO realistic expectations for every SEC west coach should be to make it to a bowl game every year and compete for a national title occasionally. Top to bottom, every SEC west school has at least a good coach. Also top to bottom, every coach is paid well and has high expectations because of it.

Nick Saban -- $7.1 million
Kevin Sumlin -- $5 million
Les Miles -- $4.3 million
Hugh Freeze -- $4.3 million
Bret Bielema -- $4 million
Gus Malzahn -- $3.8 million
Dan Mullen -- $3.0 million

The problem is they can't all win every game. So the best a school can hope for is that their coach builds their program the right way, they make a bowl game every year, with a chance at a national title every so often when the stars align their way. Otherwise they risk having unrealistic expectations and become perpetually dissatisfied with whoever their head coach is.

LSU fans with realistic expectations would be satisfied having Les Miles as their coach.

LSU fans with unrealistic expectations are the cause of SEC fans laughing at Les and LSU when those expectations aren't met.

I'm thinking beating Arky is everyone's baseline goal.

considering we're a lot of teams super bowl, that makes sense.

I predicted 11-2 this year but it seems we'll be 9-3 (10-3*) if things finish smoothly.

The team has given up and Steele falls asleep in the booth.

1a - To not be mud stomped by division foes three weeks in a row.

1b - To not be satisfied with a 7-5 season.

to never lose to shitty programs like Arkansas and Ole Miss is a good basis

Saw it another thread that the players were on a hunger strike for CLM. Will not play in the Belk Bowl. Will link it for you.

I have zero faith he will be able to reverse the decline like what happened after 2008. John Chavis ain't walking through that door again. The offense has been consistently one dimensional for the past few years, save for one outlier season where we had 3 NFL staters at skill.

The inability to groom and develop a QB from HS will be his undoing. He has always coached offense so there's no excuse for it. He was an offensive lineman and offensive line assistant for years and that has been the second most inconsistent unity behind QB.

I love Les and hate to see him go out like this (if he is in fact done). So many great memories from his tenure. Also some head-shaking ones. Imo he is luckier than he is good.

Wow aggies really are dumb

Paying a coach 5 million a year for complete irrelevance

Outside the SEC network I havent seen them mentioned on the national level for a couple months

That's not how you spell "Alabama."

Miles would have 3-4 titles if not for Meyer and Saban easily. He is a top tier coach but those two may be two of the top ten all time when they are dond. People seem to forget no coach has more underclassmen go to the NFL and he has a very young team and yet another seller class. He is actually recruiting really well now. I think he needs to hire a new OC. That should be what Lsu fans are calling for. He deserves better than this. I think force the Cord change, and make him hire a more aggressive and modern coordinator. Then see what happens.

What ever the expectations are they are way over inflated compared with LSU's "tradition."

Anytime your program is in a losing streak by a combined score of 48-14 to the University of Arkansas you know you've hit rock bottom. Pig frickers!

9+ wins EVERY season.
10+ wins MOST seasons
SEC title every 3-5 years
National title contention/conversation on a regular basis
8 wins or fewer is unacceptable

Which is exactly what we have with Les Miles.

Hey, I love Les. He's awesome in my book, will forever appreciate his commitment and accomplishments at LSU. I truly think we should name the field after him. Les is a legend in my book, and the 11 years with him at the helm have been exciting, fun, memorable, remarkable, and possibly the most consistently successful LSU stretch that we may ever see. His success - along with his quirky personality - has made him and LSU a centerpiece of college football.

That said, reasonable people can see that it's time for change at LSU. We have become stale and need some fresh new energy that can re-focus our efforts and get us back on top instead of slowly losing stature while standing in Bama's shadow.

To your point, though, LSU went 8-5 in 2014, and will go either 8-3 or 7-4 in the 2015 regular season. That's 2 unacceptable seasons back-to-back.
