There has been an absence of MSU fans this week. A family (and by extension MSU Football) is burying an 18 year old football player today. The remembrance service was last night.

A football game just doesn't seem to matter to most of us. As someone who grew up amongst Alabama fans, I hate Bama more than a thousand Ole Misses.

But, its another year, another game where Bama stands in the way of MSU having a special season. From #WeBelieve to #1 on the road last year, it always sets up to be Bama standing in the way. And we have failed, repeatedly.

There's really no reason to believe that this year will be any different. Its not the first time we've played at home against Bama. Its not the first time Dak has been the QB. Its Bama-Mississippi State. There's a lot of seperation in 79-19-1.

But, thats why they play the game. You never know how the death of a teammate will motivate. When Nick Bell died five years ago, State took a vastly more talented Arkansas team to double overtime, fumbling the winning touchdown out of the back of the end zone.

Thanks, I had met the player's father a couple of times (he also died in the wreck). He was a really nice guy.

2010 Arkansas was a very good Sugar Bowl team that could have played for the natty if they were in any conference except the SEC West. Hell, that State team finished 4th in the West and finished 15th in the nation.

Are you really trying to play this card? Sounds like some shite a women would say when her friend of her friend of her friends friend passes away and she's heartbroken, don't get me wrong it's tragic what happened to this young man, but don't sit here and act like you were best friends with the guy and you've been walking around campus with a frown.

This is in no way a disrespectful comment to the young man who passed away or his family, it's a tragic loss.

The player and his father were from the Coast, and it has a lot of people shaken up. This is much bigger than football, and my condolences to the family, friends, and teammates.

No one's playing a card. There just hasn't been a bunch of grinding on Alabama this week - its pretty evident that's why. Its pretty depressing on all the MSU boards this week.

Ive been active, but not really in the grinding mood. I hope we beat the shite out of Bama. I don't think we will win, but to analyze the intangibles of this game and not mention how the team's focus will be after losing a teammate is not really fair, either.

This seems like you're trying to guilt Bama fans for talking shite in football because someone died.

RIP of course, but this thread just comes off that way.

I've missed this story completely. Was this someone on the team, or someone connected to the team somehow?

Sorry for the loss. 18 is way too young. Unfathomable pain that family must be going through after losing their son. My prayers go out to them.

by comparison to the other news, certainly not. it does put things into perspective

well, ok, this seems like an odd thread to make that point in, but you're entitled to that opinion.

I would certainly hope that given your accurate statement that a football game just doesn't seem to matter to most of us (given the loss of life), that no one on your side would cheapen that young man's life and impact on others by trying to use his death as motivation. That would be horribly indelicate and detached from the real focus of that family at this time.

Both I guess. Two people passed away. One person was Keith Joseph Jr. who was a player on the team and the other was his father Keith Joseph Sr. a former player.

Jeez you sound like my ex, someone passed away in the MIAS or whatever school district she was in and the person was from like 3 hours away and she had no idea who the person was and she was heartbroken what the frick ever. Yes the man's passing is tragic but it doesn't effect you or anyone else directly unless you know him. Leave the grieving to people who know him, send up a prayer to the big man upstairs for him. Stop trying to gain attention from someone's loss you POS

No man is an island entire of itself; every man
is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;
if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe
is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as
well as any manner of thy friends or of thine
own were; any man's death diminishes me,
because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom
the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.
