Welp, that huge buyout to get McElwain out of CSU looking like a bargain

Everybody around here thought Foley had lost his mind after the hire. I thought that Mac would do great things at UF, but I did think the cost of the buyout was pretty steep. Looks like a pretty good deal now.

Mac did some great things with CSU out in Fort Collins - no real reason to think he could be successful in the SEC.

We rich too. Money's not an issue like at UT.

It's a bit early but I really like what he's doing with so little he inherited on offense and he's not messed up the good that was left on defense.

Keeping Summers was brilliant though. He's the miracle worker of the crew.

His pressers are real and kind of funny/quirky. He's been a joy to watch and I can't tell you how glad I am that Muschamp is gone.

I'm thinking of going to the game at CSU as well.

Coach Mac is an excellent coach. I watched him help Bama win titles, turn CSU into a competitive and fun team to watch, and now he's doing well at Florida. I'm really not surprised. The guy knows what he's doing unlike some of his counterparts, looking at you Butch and Al Golden.

The challenge for Foley now is to negotiate a fair, competitive raise, with merit bonuses built in for MacElwain and staff...but not overreact on the contract the way he did with Muschamp after the 2012 season. That Muschamp deal still has me scratching my head. The Gators had a great record, but the offense was awful and they had some luck in several of their wins.

Road - if you have never been to Fort Collins, or CSU for a game you need to. its a great place and a good time - not SEC level atmosphere, but a great time nonetheless

Agreed. Sadly, you must gamble with coach contracts these days and because of the SEC money the agents know exactly how much higher the stakes are.

I would like to see stuff in the contract like...

1) bring back and maintain the energy level in the Swamp - cut him a check that night for nights like the OM game.
2) recruit a three star and he's an all american - cut him a check that night.

etc. Get creative and actually reward them for things other than the obvious wins.

I was on my way to CO the summer I graduated. I had a truck, a dog and no plans. I then met my future wife. The dog is dead, the truck is traded and I still haven't been to CO.

I'm thinking that'll be a great trip for my son and I.

Sounds like a good book. I wouldn't mind hearing more.

I was planning on writing during that time as well because I always hated writing but wanted to get better.

I picked out Durango and the starting point in CO.

ETA: Doesn't it sound more like a country song than a book?

I'm not a gator hater. I used to really enjoy watching Percy Harvin and I liked Urban Meyer.

Durango and Telluride are Tier 1 CO towns. You should make it out there eventually.

Percy - agreed, so smooth

We can't be friends if you like Urban. Back to the hate it is.

I worked for a law firm as a runner. All I did all day was read legal files (maritime defense) and look at the Atlas.

Durango just somehow spoke to me and said, kid, you need to start here.

I was going to hike for a bit that summer and then hire on a ski resort doing some shite job for a winter and ski and then start real life. I'm guessing I probably would have never left. I don't smoke pot so I'm assuming I would have still done something productive.

If he gets one or two more quality wins (eg Cocktail Party), probably deserving of national COY.
