Offensively we are doing exactly what he did at UT which was scoring a lot of points on the secondary break.

Pearl's teams really slowed down at Tennessee once he ran out of Buzz's guys.

The guys he inherited were much better for his system than the highly ranked guys he recruited.

Tennessee's Elite 8 team in 2010 was ranked 100th in the country in adjusted tempo (compared to 6th for AU right now).

I could see that. I remember UT in the NCAA tourney running the spread flex and just passing the ball back and fourth above the key until 5 sec on the shot clock. We did that a ton last year but this team can get out and run. When we do get bogged down in the half court we will no doubt chuck up a three. Correct me if I am wrong but his teams at UT would give up big leads as well correct?

Some of us are just having a little fun with you Aubs. I think y'all will eventually have the last laugh. Not championship level laughs but consistent NCAA tourney contender teams. Pearl is simply recruiting too well not to have NCAA tourney teams.

Having said that, I think Avery is going to be at least as good if we continue to recruit anywhere near the level we now are under Avery. This recent class is as highly touted as any in school history

Avery had a connection to Sexton's AAU coach (early offer was what got him) and state of Alabama does t pump out 5*s like Petty regularly.

Avery still hasn't proven to be an elite recruiter outside of the state of AL

What connection did Johnson have to his AAU coach?

That's the thing though. That's most of what bama needs. Get 2 of the 3 best players from the state and then a couple of solid out of state guys and we're golden

Avery found Sexton before he was an elite recruit, anyway. It's the main reason we held off every other program in America for him.

And I don't think he had any special connection to the Southern Stampede either...

Yea, I followed Sexton and his recruitment pretty closely since Avery arrived and made him a priority (back when he was just a pretty good recruit), and I don't remember ever reading that or hearing it around Atlanta. Doesn't mean it isn't true.

Also, the way he got in back in with Petty was pretty impressive. Pelphrey and Pett are a pretty strong recruiting staff.

Now his high school coach attended Alabama, but it's not like he steers guys to Bama with him having Harper at Auburn and a kid at Georgia as well.

Bama did a great job jumping on him before he exploded, they found him so early from his coach though. You don't usually find 5* talent who are still rated 3*s their JR year and no big offers

For pointing out circumstances that are unlikely to repeat? Srop being a rantard ignoring reality

I'll be the first to admit that Auburns 5*s were extremely fortunate circumstances

-Mustapha Heron- Dixon was fired from Pitt where he was committed and lucked into him needing a landing spot

-Austin Wiley- His Moms number is in the AU rafters

-EJ Montgomery- Sister plays for AU W Basketball

but you're a fool if you expect a class like this again

Yea, we will only sign Top 10 classes in years where the state is loaded or we have some sort of connection/early see a guy and beat others to them.

Best case scenario is like Gottfried, IMHO.

You can hit a top 10 class by signing 2-3 different low rated 4*s and a 3* or two. Team Ranking for BBall is a joke past the top 5ish

I'm saying that two 5* players in a class the next 4-5 years may not happen once for Alabama/AU combined

And even 5 stars are very different.

Sexton is first sure fire, automatic NBA player almost no matter what happens in college we've signed since Gerald Wallace.

Yep. Gottfried had a few too.

And others are very good players, but not necessarily can't miss lottery pick guys. Hendrix, Winston, J-Green, Petty this year.

I think Avery will be a good recruiter, but long term he is going to have to win big by coaching not recruiting.

Bruce is in the same boat if not worse, he won't be able to coast on recruiting at Auburn

Crazy impressive what he's done with himself.

He was a pretty lazy dude for 2 years in Tuscaloosa until Grant got to him.
