We pretty much just need to stop ranking teams before the season begins.

We have been talking about this for a long time.

Why not just wait and see how things turn out.

This season is perfect example.

Just wait until about 4 to 5 weeks and then judge away.

I hate pre-season rankings.

They are always more detrimental than benificial.

I agree. We all know Alabama is #1, but after that it is a fricking crap shoot. Have Alabama at #1, then ranked 2-25 after the first month or so.

The only rankings that matter do wait.

When it comes down to it preseason expectations are always going to be a sizeable influence. Teams just don't play enough meaningful OOC games to form a complete picture of how teams compare nationally.

Can't argue with that.

Only issue would be college game day selecting a game or tv networks choosing prime time games. Oh well

Well the AP is going to do what they want to do.

But I agree that preseason polls are worthless.

Then you'd have no early season point of comparison between opponents, no real sense of what might be an early season upset.

I understand your point and agree with it to an extent, but you've gotta admit that you're more apt to watch an early season game if there are numbers before their team names.

Will never happen. The playoff committee doesn't meet until later on so the one that really counts is on point.

Preseason rankings exist to be talked about on ESPN and to hype early in the season football games. They suck but good luck convincing ESPN they should quit using one of their marketing tools.

Depends on how you look at it. The poll that matters, the playoff committee, doesn't come out until October. All the other ones are just groups of people pontificating on teams' rank. There is no official poll anymore. Maybe doesn't mean anything, the coaches poll doesn't mean anything. Me and you and 3 other friends can come up with some pole and it would mean the same.
