WDE24's Top 5 SEC Running Backs - Week 3

As always this list chronicles the top SEC running backs by production on the field to date for the current season. Objective statistics are the primary criteria utilized in formulating this list, however, the statistics are set into context based on the quality of opponent upon which the statistics were accumulated. In some instances where the choice is close, a subjective eye test is also taken into account. However, hype, injuries, suspensions, etc. are not. This isn't a list of most talented or a prediction of NFL draft status. It is just an unbiased look at which 5 SEC RB's are getting the job done the best on the field. As such, this list will likely drastically change each week, especially early in the season.
Note: This list only looks at performance at the RB position. Thus, kick and punt return yardage aren't part of the evaluation. However, receiving out of the RB position is accounted for.
1. Leonard Fournette- Fournette edges ahead of Chubb to be the super most, bestest ever, Vegas odds leading, hershel and bo-eseque, number 1 in the latest RB rankings thanks to his one man show performance against the tissue Tigers. Fournette has single handedly carried this team and kept Miles off of the hot seat again.
2. Nick Chubb - Nick drops a spot despite another fantastic performance. The silver lining for Nick is that he still gets to play Auburn.
3. Derrick Henry - Despite his numbers being significantly lower (ypp and ypg), Henry is a very close 3rd place because his production has come against superior competition. If Lane had "run the bawl" late in the 4th, Bama might still be undefeated.
4. Boom Williams - While he sits a significant distance from the top 3, Boom continued a good year against a good defensive unit on Saturday.
5. Alex Collins - A disappointing year to date for both Collins and the hogs, Collins can glean some comfort by finally showing up in the rankings.
Others receiving consideration:
Jalen Hurd, Tre Carson, Peyton Barber, Sony Michel

I have no problem with the swap. LF had the better game for sure.
Chubb looked a little less "explosive" at times Saturday. Could have been the ankle

I agree with this. Michel is looking better each week though.

I think Jalen Hurd has argument for 4th.
The guy is consistent and very, very talented.
He has 6 TD's in 2 and 1/3rd games and is still running behind a very bad OL.

quote:The committee doesn't parse stats in such a silly way. TDs are often just a by product of where on the field a RB gets his carries. It isn't a non factor with the committee, but it is among the secondary stats that are reviewed. Not to mention, 5 of those 6 TD's came against BG and Western Carolina.
He has 6 TD's in 2 and 1/3rd games and is still running behind a very bad OL.
Lastly, Hurd has more touches and less production than Boom, so the lame 2.3 games qualifier doesn't help.

LF7 isn't in first by enough! WDE suspect

Fournette was #1 last week by much more than an edge. He had 228 and 2 TDs with almost 11 minutes left in the third quarter. And the OL looked about as good as he did. You've never struck me as the type to forget about the big fellas. (also, single handed is strong when you consider BH accounted for 3 TDs)
But overall your rankings look fair, per usual.

I love how you talk about using stats to make your decisions, yet don't post a single stat. Cmon man...

its only been 3 games. The body of work argument right now can revolve around 1 huge game. Fournette is head and shoulders above Chubb right now. It's a long seaso, but as of today, it's not close.
Vegas agrees with me FYI.

Pretty sure LF is #1 on his list. Do you need an asterisk or something?
