Was this the most "down" you've ever seen the SEC? It's coaching or lack of?

For me it's a Yes.

There isn't a clear top 10 team outside of Bama.

Aside from Saban, there are no elite or even really good coaches in the SEC. Behind Saban there's a million miles of gap and then... Mullen... maybe?

My personal theory is that the SEC largely has "settled" on coaches due to talent level. Look how long we kept Miles, who doesn't seem to have programs beating down the door for his services. The talent is there, but that's also been the problem. The talent has been so good in the SEC recently that subpar coaching has been allowed to get it done. Look at the BIG10... They don't have even close to the talent base the SEC does, so they've been forced to bring in elite coaches to make their programs respectable again (Meyer and Harbaugh) and Franklin is doing a hell of a job at Penn St.

The ACC has better coaches than the SEC also; Fisher, Dabo, Fedora, Fuentes are all better than anything in the SEC (Saban excluded again)

BIG12 can't compete from a talent level so they have high flying offenses and just try to score 100 on each other every game.

Pac12 is in a similar situation as the SEC.... Peterson and then everyone else really, but they don't really give a shite about football so it's whatever to them.

Saban aside, lack of quality coaching has and will continue to hurt the SEC.

The last time the SEC had only one team in the top 15 until a couple weeks ago was in 1979 when Alabama won the title. Auburn finished 16

There might only be one in the top 20 now

Its that down

I think Auburn, LSU, and Florida are top 20 worthy but That's giving props for the schedules we play. But there isn't another top 15 team in the SEC right now.

It's absolutely coaching.

Les (semi-competent version)
Spurrier
Petrino
Urban

All gone

Some coaching but look how bad the QB situation is in the SEC. How many freshman had to play? It's not just one school either. There must be a shortage of real talented QB's or it is poor development.

Every team in the SEC had three losses or more.

The SEC Champion Florida had losses of 12, 17 and 23 points. And that 12 point loss to Mississippi State is deceiving. Florida scored two late fourth quarter TDs to make the final score look more competitive. Florida was basically blown out three times that year.

Bama was 3-8 and had Mike DuBose as their head coach.

It was Saban's first year at LSU so he was still building up that program.

It was Jim Donnan's last year at Georgia.

Yep. It's going to get better though in 2017-2018.

It's about half of both. Its both coaching and mediocre teams.

It's pretty much always this way when Bama is dominant.

1995 saw 6 of 12 schools finish with 6 wins or less. 4 had overall losing records. the 1-loss SEC champ got boat raced by Nebraska 62-24 in the national championship game.

Bingo.

Outside of Kiffin, who has really developed a QB in the last three years? He's developed a new one three years in a row.

Theee is that as well in both counts. Lol

I would love to have Allen at Auburn. He is better than his brother imo. Dude reminds me of Wilson in how tough he is.

In '08, the SEC had five sitting NC coaches in the league (Saban, Miles, Meyer, Spurrier, and Fulmer). Tuberville (AU '04) was very close to being in that group as well.

I think now there is 1 - Saban. There is basically a new generation of HC's in the SEC and they're all jockeying for 2nd place. Time will tell if any can separate themselves from the pack and compete with Bama.
