I've been given several reasons, but there is no way Rick Ray should have been hired as a major conference head coach. If I was an AD and read his resume I wouldn't even have given him an interview. He had no qualities(top recruiter, top assistant at a successful school, successful head coach at a small school, bigger school head coaching experience)that said he should be a head coach at a major conference. I think he'd have had a hard time getting a High Point, Stetson type job. All that said was he the worst hire ever?

Don't be dumb. On paper Tony Barbee was probably the best hire we could have made at the time. The problem was we didn't talk to enough people around him and find out what a miserable person be was.

I am a huge CBB fan, and I had to Google who the heck he was. I mean he was the freakin 2nd assistant at the basketball powerhouse Clemson. Just bad.

I think we all did. I think john Brady was brought up as a possible candidate at the time too.

I was trying to think of all the coaches I could remember at all the SEC(back to about 1980), and in all seriousness Jirsa came up second to me behind Ray.

Trent Johnson. Hated recruiting so much LSU had to put the band's tuba player at center. His only good year was with John Brady's talent, and he's only won SIX conference games in THREE years at TCU.
