Still, the University of Tennessee --- according to financials published in The Chronicle of Higher Education --- could supply the largest monetary disbursements to its student-athletes, based on cost-of-living calculations, at more than $5,600 based on a nine-month school calendar.
UT was one of just four institutions, per Chronicle, eligible to provide more than $5,000 --- with Auburn ($5,586), Louisville ($5,202) and Mississippi State ($5,126) the others. Final figures have not yet been determined, but Tennessee has indicated it will provide more than $5,000 to its eligible student-athletes.

Tennessee Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Dave Hart did not dismiss the significance of UT's financial position as it pertained to helping its student-athletes.
"I like the formula now, only because it's advantageous for us," Hart told VolQuest.com. "I won't sugarcoat that; currently it's advantageous to us.
"We can do what we want to do, and we'd be kidding ourselves if we didn't think there was an element of that that will serve us well."

Neyland is currently in a multi year, multi phase renovation project. When is the last time you attended a game there?

Does cost of attendance factor in the lack of desire of a prospective student to attend said university? Because that'd really explain why UTk and Auburn are on the high end.

Yeah, I knew about this a while back and am kinda ticked at Auburn right now for not fudging the numbers a bit more. Put that number high even if it is total BS. That way athletes will see bigger financial reasons to attend your university over others.
Jelly of the Vols right now. Grrrr!
What's funny about this is the state of Tennessee has one of the lowest cost of living rates in the U.S. I lived there for 15 years. Mississippi would be the lowest cost of living state but TN is right there with them. How does a school in one of the lowest cost of living states in the country end up on top? Vols know why and am ticked at Auburn right now for not joining that party.

Anyone want to try to convince me that MSU legitimately has one of the highest "cost of living" in the SEC?
