We better have someone good in line, because our D this year was pretty solid. Gave up no more than 28 offensive points in regulation in any game this year.

And there it is...excuse #1 in a long line of many, for the collapse in 2016.
'The DC is in his first year. The players are young within his system. The offense isn't used to playing to suit his defensive style. We're moving in the right direction. He just needs a few recruits to suit his system. We just need to purge a few guys that back in January we said were going to be All-SEC, then we'll be in good shape. Butch is doing well. We have faith in him. It takes seven years to build a program. Vawls are awesome. Please believe us, we mean it this time.'

I just think it is hilarious reading "we both came to the conclusion that it was best to part ways", every school tries to spin it this way.

Is the general consensus that Shoop is an upgrade? How was PSU's defense this year?

major role in our back to back bowl wins ....lol is that a measure of success for a program of Tennessee's supposed stature?
Most programs in big 6 or top tier in general would say
-10 win seasons
-Beating Rivals
-Conference Championships
-National Championships
I guess Brick is happy with winning bowl games over Iowa and Northwestern. Major accomplishment. Very Impressed

Nope. No excuses for next year, including this. Obviously we wouldn't have gotten rid of Jancek unless Butch believed there was someone who could do his job better. If we regress defensively next year, the blame is on Butch for making the change in the first place.

Ranked in the top 20.
Pretty sure Shoop's defenses have ranked in the top 20 every year for the last 5 seasons, with considerably less talent than most of his opponents.
