You loved boonzone.

But really, very boring coach. Underachiever.

No a terrible coach far from great though. He recruits well so it overcomes some of his shortcomings as a HC. Any coach after Pearl left was going to have a heck of a time short of equal success to the Jewish Rose.

His teams always underachieved. Many hailed the Sweet 16 team as some sort of coaching success, but that team had no business being on the bubble.

He is the type of coach that teaches "toughness and defense", the type of shite that takes no coaching acumen. I would not want him to coach my team and would much rather have Barnes who doesn't leave campus to recruit.

ESPN said he left because VOLS supporters are racist and he feared for his life while in Knoxville.

You forgot the biggest sin: Martin-style hoops was boring as frick and when it started to get too exciting he'd call a time out to stop all that scoring his team was doing. He and Holly are cut from the same coaching cloth.

That said, I'd trust Zo with my wallet and think he's an upstanding guy in a overly boring church-deacon sort of way.

As another plus to Mizzou his wife will love the Uber PC "culture" that's been created in Columbia.

The real answer was he wasn't Bruce Pearl. People hated him and wanted Pearl back even though it wasn't going to happen. He didn't win overnight but it improved over time. He is a really good guy. Plus some people find his brand of bball boring.

He did make the Sweet 16 but 3/4 of the way through the season you wouldn't have predicted that and some think he backed into the tournament in the first place. By the time the tournament actually happened the damage was done.

Vol fans were pretty mean to the guy. I don't think it was racism. If it was racism why did they want their Jewish coach back?

Zo actually reminds me a lot of my grandpa who was one of those very sober-minded church deacon type personalities. You could trust everything about him (a super-responsible by the book type) but fun wasn't his thing.

Yeah, seems like a nice guy. I think he would do well at Mizzou and would definitely be a step up from what they have now.

He'd definitely be a step up both in terms of coaching and trustworthiness. He's not a bad coach or a bad guy at all. He just underachieved with what he had and played a style of hoops that is terribly boring to watch even when the team was winning. The only exciting games I remember from the Martin Era were during the Sweet 16 run when the team had a 'us against the world' attitude and played with more energy and intensity because of the pressure and criticism that had mounted from poor play earlier in the season and the fact that a large number of fans were eyeballing Pearl's show-cause expiring.

When Martin and the team played with a chip on their shoulders it was great basketball to watch. Unfortunately, the only time I saw that was when fans had already revolted due to prior play and disappointing seasons.

He's on the list for certain, but as mentioned, he's also on the list for IL.

I see him as a double. High floor, low ceiling kind of guy. He'd clearly get Mizzou back to respectability, but I don't think he'd ever get a good enough team to compete for the SEC title, or 2cd place.

Mizzou supposedly wants to go after a Power Five type coach and is willing to spend at least $2.5M. That would seem to indicate Martin as a prime target. A lot of the national guys are also speculated about Tom Crean. If there's any truth at all to those rumors, I think you go after him hard before falling back to Martin.

Cuonzos life story is awesome. He's a pretty bad arse dude.

If Missouri whiffs on some home run guys I think Cuonzo would be a very solid hire for them. He'd walk into Chicago and St Louis and be able to immediately demand respect amongst recruits and their parents, too.

I heard that the boosters wouldn't allow him to use the private plane to go out and recruit while they allowed other coaches to use it.

frickING THIS! I cannot tell you how many times we'd gain momentum and go on a run only for him to call a time-out and kill it. Drove me nuts because rarely did we score with his awful offense.

What happened with Cuonzo Martin?

He was born not Bruce Pearl. Not only did Bruce win, but he loves the communities he coaches in and it makes them love him back.

Even though it is silly/stupid to see an opposing coach do these things, when it is "your" coach it is awesome.
Add to the fact that Bruce's style was fast paced and exciting and Martin plays some boring basketball.

4 final 8's in the last 20 years. Dog fights with Kansas even when we lose to them and numerous B12 titles.
