I've seen her on TV at games recently, and she looks pretty good under the circumstances. Is she able to interact with people? I hope they're able to make her as comfortable as possible.

Such a terrible fate. I hope she's still doing well.

Best wishes to that grand lady. She made UT and the SEC a power in women's basketball.

She's a demi god up here for the most part and taken care of about as well as you can. Still tough to see her like that. Her eyes say a lot about where she's at. Sometimes they look fine and sometimes I've wondered how she does it. Very, very loved woman. Wish her the best

I saw a documentary where her former players were talking about "the stare" she would give them whenever they were fricking up or not doing what she wanted. They said it would scare them to see that stare even if it wasn't directed at them.

And to be honest, after they showed it, I would shite my pants too if it was directed at me. I honestly think she's the greatest coach in any sport that the SEC has ever had. That includes Bear Bryant.

Apparently she has good days and bad days. I know someone who waited on her in knoxville a few months back and someone had to order her food for her.

The thing about that stare is Pat never had to say much to get her point across. A lot of people assumed she yelled a lot in practice but I watched her at work in practice and that's not the case (it was no more than anyone else would yell and probably less than a lot of coaches).

Watching her in practice she would go to different parts of the floor and you could see her calculating every single thing that was going on (you could see that in games as well where she was anticipating and adjusting to what she was seeing in the game) -- it was like no matter where you were even if it was happening behind her she knew what you were doing and knew what her players were doing wrong.

Players that had been around for a while knew exactly what to do when that stare fell on them and at times nothing had to be said because they'd already been taught what they were doing wrong/what their bad habits were/what they needed to adjust.

It was amazing to watch.

Weird because so do I and that's what they told me as well.

Terrible disease.

I went to the SC game in Knoxville in 2005, 2009, and 2013.

2005 Peyton Manning's number was retired and it was cool to see him do the Vol walk and honored at halftime.

2013 they honored Pat at halftime and they had just begun construction of the statue right outside the basketball venue.

Good times, even as a Gamecock.

2009 Kiffin was coach.

I would say yes to this. Her, Bear, and the Baron. She was an amazing coach. Would have loved to see her coach men, she is the one woman who could have done it successfully.

Agree 100%

It wouldn't have been as flashy as other schools do it but she would have won with fundamentally sound basketball.

I agree on wanting to see her coach the men as I believe she could've done it but at the same time it would've been a tremendous loss to the women's game which she basically built from scratch. Tough choice.

Don't forget UGA's Suzanne Yoculan... women won 10 national titles for Georgia and a personality that made her the Bob Knight of women's athletics. Retired at the absolute peak of 5 straight titles.

I was on one of the shuttles back to the hotel and the postgame was on the radio.. it's all the guy would talk about. Every play that he interviewed he brought up the jerseys.

You definitely need to come back and see the statue/plaza area. It's really amazing. They got a sculptor who really captured her image. A lot of sculptures these days don't look anything like the person but this one is really great. UT basketball games are always fun to attend no matter who you cheer for.

Living in Waco, we get a good deal of exposure to Kim Mulkey. I've said for years that she'd be great coaching a men's team

A great coach is a great coach. Period

So sorry about Summitt. What a terrible way to go. My grandmother died with it. My dad--who is a remarkably intelligent man--has lived in fear for years that it could get him too.

And tbh, I'm a bit frightened as well

I'm quite sure the Tennessee faithful will take of her and her family as they go through these trying times
