From my Generation

Both Pro and College Athletes know the difference between right and wrong.

If you are arrested and proven guilty, you have lost your privilege to enjoy the rewards that are available to you. Banned for life from participating as a Professional and dismissed from the University that offered a chance of a life time.

There is a big difference between society in years past and today, facts are facts. Let's go back to "The punishment means something".

I agree wholeheartedly in theory.

but especially for the pro athletes who get in trouble there are other teams that will line up to take the talent.

I really like the Richt Rule the SEC just implemented. I wish it would go to all conferences, but I fear there is too many whiny titty babies who would say it's too punitive.

I value your opinion, and hope you or your family are never a victim of someone with amultiple arrest record.

Actually not many, because there was a mutual agreement between Media and players but...... I cannot remember a vast majority with tattoos, earrings, nose rings, spousal abuse, drug abuse, felons.

The pros still would let the talent speak for itself. Consider a Ray Rice. Baltimore won't have him but you can bet another team will take him. I'm okay with that.

I am in favor of really coming down on the Student Athlete though. It's a tremendous privilage to have your schooling paid for, and I think there are certain instances and crimes that would warrant a persona non grata through all of the universities.

It won't happen though.

Three of these things are not like the others, and no one who is actually convicted of a felony is going to be participating in sports outside of a prison rec yard.

The problem lies with the repeat offenders and the cover-ups.

Everybody makes mistakes - especially college kids with egos and/or money.

The programs who allow repeated bad behavior for the sake of wins .... especially violent bad behavior and/or seriously criminal stuff over and over again .... it is the programs who should be punished.

Conversely, programs like UNC who cheat their asses off .... the same holds true, they should be severely punished - but will they?

Now we're getting to the root of the problem.

that all depends on the crime to me but i'm for punishing them more than 2 qtrs of a game.

I'm not sure what generation you are, but if you honestly think that, in times before ubiquitous internet and an entire generation of amateur cell-phone videographers, athletes were held to a higher standard, or even punished as often as they are now, you're being naive.

I agree... any athlete who gets something like a DUI should be banned from competition for life. That way we only have presidents and congressmen with DUIs, not those life altering athletes.
