I'm thinking about taking the over. WKU has a hell of an offense. No defense to speak of though.

Taking the over on 62 (or has it gone down more?) seems smart. However, consider the defense that WKU played last year? Vandy COULD shut them down fairly well. If WKU only gets say...21, do you think Vandy scores 42?
Back to the OP, it's being driven by the money. I think there's a lot of dumb money being thrown at this game thinking WKU will just boat race VU. I'd be curious to see where the smart money is actually going.

They could not have done any worse with their coaching hire.

They averaged 44pts on O and gave up 39 on D last year. Return their QB plus 6 others on O. And I think 7 on D.
I already got on WKU.
The over may be a play but they may shut Vandy down.

This seems unlikely. We had one common opponent last year. In that game, Vandy's likely starter threw for as many TDs and WKU's starter. We also outgained that team (Old Dominion) by 200 yards. WKU was outgained by like 30. The chances of WKU's defense shutting down Vandy are much lower than Vandy's defense shutting down WKU's offense.

Well you have a valid point about them not shutting yall down. However I think they have to much offense to stop.
The lines as I remember them were
Vandy opened -2.5 and total 65
Now its WKU -2.5 and 62.5

Love for the 'Dores to win, how do you feel about the Vandy offense?
I'd like to believe that the Vandy D can slow down WKU, I don't know that I have faith in the Vandy offense ... were there a lot of off-season changes?
And Go Dores'.

I feel better that we dumped Karl Dorrell as OC and brought in Andy Ludwig. On paper, Ludwig is a perfect fit for our personnel. The strengths of this offense are the HBs and TEs. At Wisconsin, Ludwig utilized those guys to the max. That lends itself to PA and rollout passing which is what Johnny McCrary (the presumptive starter) is best at. It really could be a steady offense. It won't blow anyone away, but against a defense as bad as WKU's was last year, we should be able to pound away then find holes in the passing game when they have to put 8 or 9 in the box to stop the run.

Not surprising. Brandon Doughty is the real deal. #1 last year if I'm correct

I just hope this is a convincing Vandy win. I'm not asking for a blowout, just not a nail biter. Either way, if Vandy shuts down Doughty and wins, the narrative will INSTANTLY turn to the fact that Doughty ripped apart lesser competition (he did) and how Vandy will be put back into their place by UGA. This game really has no positive outcome for Vandy from outsiders unless they obliterate WKU. For me, and most other Vandy fans, I think the convincing win while playing good football will be enough to stoke some optimism.

Have you considered the possibility that Vandy gets beat? And if so what would your reaction be?

No, I'm not thinking about that. I need hope. Don't do this to me, Rig. Please. Surely you can't be so cruel to a member of the family.

Thanks Dore!
That was a great and informative answer.
While not apropos for this thread, I guess it comes down to coaching connections then. Newer coaches may not have the connections/etc to get solid assistants, so then have to rely on older/recycled coaches. Seems like Dorrell never made progress as OC at Vandy and didn't give much hope for improvement.
My dogs had the same issue when Mullen was hired and he brought in Les Koening (OC) and Carl Torbush (DC) who were also previously head coaches.
Hopefully a newer/younger coach as OC (in your case Ludwig) will give you a jolt.
Your post has me buying on Vandy!!
GL and Go Dores!

I feel like I have to warn you. You might not want to "buy" on Vandy to be more than competitive. I think the team will be play harder and with more purpose, but turning improvement into victories is a whole different issue that might prove difficult.
