As a symbol of what a student-athlete is and was always meant to beat there's no better rep. in this day and age. I have no doubt they'll reach their fundraising goal to get it endowed:

quote:

ATLANTA, Ga. (WATE) – A University of Tennessee alumni chapter in North Atlanta is creating a scholarship in honor of Tennessee’s former quarterback, Joshua Dobbs.

The chapter has already raised over $3,400 on their Volstarter account. The group hopes to give the scholarship annually to help students in the North Atlanta area attend the university.

Chris Ideker, a chapter board member, said their chapter chose Dobbs because of the type of student and citizen he was. He said the chapter is hoping they can raise $25,000 to endow the scholarship. They also want the Dobbs family to help establish criteria for recipients.

“When Joshua was beginning his career, you had the academic scandal to UNC and the unionization movement at Northwestern. Many of us were questioning whether the idea of a true student-athlete was a thing of the past,” said Ideker. “Then, here comes this kid from Alpharetta who majors in aerospace engineering with a minor in business and finishes a year early. His accomplishments on the field were awesome, but that was just a platform to positively represent the university. He is the true embodiment of the Torchbearer.”

The chapter is taking donations and holding their annual golf tournament April 24 at the Alpharetta Athletic Clubs. Dobbs will host the event.

I can't think of a better tribute for the young Dobbs given all he came to represent. True student-athlete.

C'mon now. We all know announcers and media run any factoid into the ground. BUT it's still exceptional and a part of what makes him the ultimate representative of student-athletes. How many times do we hear of players of all major sports majoring in 'eligibility' or underwater basket weaving?

And yeah, I'm over-saturated with his major too but it's still important, particularly for a story about a future scholarship.

I love Josh Dobbs and he's one of my favorite QB of all time at UT.

But I can't get over the fact that he's the first Tennessee QB to lose to Vandy twice since like the 1920's.

I forgot that he started that crazy 2013 game in Knoxville as a freshman. Great kid though.

In fairness, he played the first time at the end of his true frosh year on a 5-7 team and all season he'd expected to RS. That was a truly shitty team that pretty much only had Hurd and he went out after a few plays with a concussion. Still that loss sucks and with the glory QBs get also goes blame. Even so he blew that first game against them.

The second loss he gets the blame even tho he played well enough to win -- no one can say with a straight face that defense didn't lose that game. His play lost the USCjr game tho' and the one I truly blame him for. It's the one that cost us the most and it can be firmly blamed solely on him.

We didn't have Hurd in Dobbs's freshman year, we had NOBODY. Hurd got hurt the following year in the 1st quarter.

Most TDs thrown for this season in the SEC and objectively the best stat line period (passing and running) and including completion rate. ~15 yards shy of Manning's all time record at UT and could've gotten it had the team not been more focused on Barnett getting the sack record. You obviously didn't watch him this year -- wish I could say I was surprised.
