i lived in portland (hillsboro actually) and it's nice as it gets, however, oregon has a hell of a time recruiting in the trenches. they get a guy every now and then, but i'd put em top 20. now way they are top 10.

Really bad list.

Ohio State is top 2-3 as much as I hate to admit it. I hate Ohio State.

Florida State in top 10? That is as big a laugher as anything. Obviously, the article writer has no idea how college athletics work and how putrid FSU's situation is. Florida is a much better job than any other school in the state.

Georgia in top 5? Seriously? UGA hasn't won anything in so long, Carol Burnett and Joan Rivers were spring chickens.

Oregon? LOL. Ok, they have some uniforms. They have some facilities. They have fan support. But, coaches leave there for a reason. And, it isn't money. Also, how many blue chip recruits hail from Oregon? Give me a break.

Notre Dame not in the top 10? Wow. It is only the most storied football program in the nation. It has everything you'd want. You just have to win. But don't you have to win everywhere?

The last 5 Ohio State coaches, every one since 1947 is in the CFB HOF and the current coach is a shoe in. If guaranteed to put your bust in the Hall of Fame doesn't make it a top 2 or 3 job..I don't know what does. I don't think any other school is close in this category..

(2011 interim coach Fickell doesn't count).

List is ok besides Oregon shouldn't be there. OSU too low.

Nobody agrees on subjective lists like these.

These job rankings are fun and all, but they seem to mean very little when a school gets rejected by their top 4 choices, and have to go to their 5th-10th choice when making new hires...

UF is the best coaching job in College Football by far. They have the three main constants:

And three very successful programs including them pick over their talent. Plus their facilities are behind the top programs.

Hell the state of Texas doesn't have one program as successful as those three in modern days but has more talent.

Pretty terrible list with little consistency or logic applied. At least have some categories or reasons and stick to them. For instance:

History
Facilities
Money
Fan Support
Strong AD/Admin Support
Recruiting base
Salary
History of being able to keep coaches and attract coaches

This list seems to pick schools that are strong in a couple and week in others but they are different things. The logical way to pick would be to take schools that are strong across the board and go down from there, maybe weighing some categories more than others. Rate a school on a scale of 1-10 on each of the factors I pointed out (or change them if you think they don't apply or something has been left out) and then rank.

When you see schools like Texas and USC still rated at the top when they have had very recent coaching searches (in the case of USC the last 2 times) where they didn't even come close to attracting their top choices I don't know how you rate them at that level. Clearly other coaches don't see them as "the best job" when you have multiple coaches who are nowhere near this top list who turn the job down. It also applies more logic when you look at Oregon as to why they aren't a top job, simply having Nike, facilities, and money doesn't overcome lack of recruiting base, lack of history, the fact they have lost their coach involuntarily and haven't been able to get a top tier replacement.

I would probably put Bama, Michigan, and Ohio State at the top currently. All 3 were able to truly go out and get a coach at the very top of the list in their last search. All 3 rate very strong on all of the factors I listed. After those 3 it gets more subjective as to which factors you rate highest.

There is enough talent within 100 miles of Gainesville to have a top 5 recruiting class every year. Coaching has been their weakest link over the years.

How can you put Michigan top 3 when the man LSU just fired turned them down to stay at LSU just a couple years ago?

UF recruits further than 100 miles from Gainesville. My point it is not hard to recruit at UF.

it is obviously not as easy as you think given the struggles Florida has had in recent years expecially on offense

Notre Dame shouldnt be anywhere near the top 10. What happened in the 40's-70s has no relevance now. College football was flipped upside down in the last 20 years with the amount of money all these programs are bringing in. Every program has exposure and spends money on football.

The only thing that should matter in these coach rankings is:

Recruiting
facilities
money to pay staff

I think

Bama/OSU/LSU/UF/Texas/USC/UGA/FSU are all the same. Meaning if the same coach could be cloned, he would have the same success at each program.

I am hesitant to put A&M in there, only because they havent shown a level of dominance at any stretch in modern college football. But my gut says, with the same clone coach, they would have the same success as the other schools listed

AU and TN would be my next in
