Discussions with Garrick McGee have ended. Representatives told us that Jeff Long has made the decision that having a full process after the season was better for all parties involved....adding that asking any current head coach to take this position at this time wasn't the right thing to do.

Arkansas will stay in house, appointing one of their current assistants as interim head coach for this season.

This would be the smart move, if no good option is found.

ouch - but probably the right thing to do at this point. I agree with above - 8-4 or 9-3.

Good and bad. By waiting, it pretty much means an entire new staff, but they will probably come away with a better coach, by knowing going into the season they are looking for a coach rather than after the season. They will likely have first dibs on coaches

Ask Ohio State how easy an interim higher was. Even though they had all those players out they were still more talented than Arkansas was last year.

Looks like Arky and Tenn will be in the same market after the 2012 season.

it's the right move, though. Arky will get a better coach if they wait and won't have to settle for Malzahn/McGee/etc. Not to mention, if they're really wanting one of those two, they get a year to see how they do at their new job.

And this is what they posted yesterday

quote:

Arkansas: Last Wednesday we told you that two informed sources told us that Garrick McGee would be the new head coach at Arkansas. Today, we received further confirmation of those reports. Both sources we heard from today tell us to look for McGee to be announced no later than Monday (reminder both teams have their Spring games this Saturday).

Let's see what they can come up with tomorrow to drive traffic to their site.

I know Arkansas can coach up a 5.7, but can they coach up a 5.5? Cause that's all they will be getting while the real recruits wait a whole year to see who will coach Arkansas.

The right move...I don't think it will affect wins/losses. Hire a new coach with new staff/offense or keep what you have in place with an interim. No difference.

This will affect recruiting. However, it's best to sacrifice one year of recruiting to make sure you get the right hire and not a rush job.

This is the best news I have heard if I was an Arky fan. Let the season be an audition.

8-4. Arky isn't nearly as bad off as tOSU was last year.
