It's not surprising to me.
The UTex alumni response to the horn student body's "bring back the Aggie game" vote was overwhelmingly negative.

You know what's interesting:

None of the normal sips who show up any time A&M or Texas are discussed in a thread have chimed in.

You guys seem to be doing a good enough job of sounding defensive and your SEC mates seem to be doing a good enough job seeing through you.

Yeah, I had zero doubt y'all were lurkin', enjoying the dorks around here using the horns to try to take jabs at the Ags.

Screw them.

Next year we play Clemson (at Kyle), Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Arkansas, South Carolina, and Kentucky.

I am more concerned about the pimples on my fat white arse than I am with ever playing the longwhorns again.

It's my own opinion but yeah, most A&M fans are defensive about the subject. Aggies don't want to be viewed as a school tied to the hip or under the control of Texas. A&M, along with every other school in the Big 12 was in that position from day one of the conference's formation. Oklahoma, Nebraska, A&M, Missouri, et.al were in the exact some position and were bullied by a school like Texas.

Again, that was the entire motivation behind moving to the SEC. Sure, A&M may take their licks(in football, not anywhere else) but if they can eventually compete in a conference with the strength and camaraderie of the SEC, the entire athletic department will be better off for it.

TL;DR: A&M's a bunch of pussies and we all liked it better when Texas beat them in the Big 12.

We never lost to the horns when I was an undergrad, so this has nothing to do with intimidation or whatever silly descriptor some kid on this board wants to use.

For me it's simple: I don't like 'em.

Their fans are nasty.
Their game atmosphere in ATX is weak.
And their attitude sucks.

Life is too short, and there are plenty of other teams I'd rather play.
They're our history, and that's where they ought to stay.

For the folks saying they used to watch this game, 90% of the time, that's because this was the only game in the time slot. The only way that happens now is if the SEC reconfigures the final weekend, which would also require Kansas to cooperate by playing Missouri. Bottom line: that's not happening, so we've got a choice between playing the sips in September or playing some other marquee schools. Frankly, I prefer some variety.

A&M is and will always be little brother. The series is so lopsided and trophy case so lopsided that A&M would have to win 40 games in a row to take over the All Time Series lead. That is embarrassing.

Absolutely their record is better.
That still doesn't make a lick of difference re: the current discussion.
But thanks for your input.

Haha, so your argument is because A&M had good audiences when you had a generational and controversial player, it definitely wouldn't help your brand to play one of the biggest programs in college football on a yearly basis?

It would help our brand some, but it helps their home schedule WAY more. So frick them.

Is Auburn willing to do something that helps Alabama football more than Auburn football? frick no. Same thing here.

Anyway, if you want to argue that we can't understand because the game never really rose to the level of the rivalries we know in the SEC, fine, I just have to accept your first hand experience of it.

That isn't our claim, it is theirs. For almost the entire time we were in the Big 12 Longhorns would tell us "y'all aren't a real rival, OU is our only real rival."

Now they have to actually live with that arrogant position and a completely crap home schedule and we love it.

I will say leaving the Big 12 and Texas was a shrewd and calculating move that has paid off. Showed guts to do that so I will give you credit for that. Look at Oklahoma who is scared to leave the teet of Texas.

So what's the point in A&M playing them? It would take a couple generations of A&M winning every game to even the series and if that's the indicator of an outsider's interest in the game, what's the point?

ETA: If your answer is that we shouldn't be scared to play them and we'll always be little brother, I'd argue that it takes a much bigger set of balls to agree to play Bama, LSU, Auburn, etc. on a yearly basis than it does to play a Texas team(who A&M is trailing 20-19 since 1973 and scholarship limitis) once a year.

That's what I've said all along.
We're damned if we do and damned if we don't.
So the horns can take their after-the-fact wishes, shove 'em in their pipe, and smoke 'em.

My question to all of these new experts on Texas A&M-UTex history: Why do you think the horns are suddenly interested in playing Texas A&M?
