Under what circumstances is a "package deal" acceptable in recruiting?

IYO
For me, if you have to take a 2* or an unrated player to get a game changer like a Fournette, it's acceptable.
When we got Da'Rick Rogers, we had to take his QB, a low rated 3* I believe (can't remember his name, Walt help me out) and I was fine with it. Didn't pan out like I hoped, but it was an acceptable risk.
It's unacceptable to take a low rated/ unrated player to get a 3* or even a 4*. That's just my opinion.

Can only be judged after the players have completed their eligibility. Taking a high 3 star to get a high 4/5star seems like a good deal unless the highly eater player ends up sucking or getting arrested.

It is rarely a good idea to spend 2 scholarships on one player. But considering our dumbass coach will sign longsnapper to scholarships or take the "other brother" when he talented one went else where, I'm fine with it. Gus will waste them anyways, why not to finally get good players.

We had to offer Quincy Mauger to get Brendan Langley. Langley ended up transferring and Mauger ended up a starter.

Only cuck sec teams would do a package deal.

Good ol Nash Nance.
I'm not even sure he was a 3*. I think he was committed to Idaho before y'all offered him.

the lower rated kid needs to be a decent ballplayer in his own right and the higher rated kid needs to be a game changer. If you know the lower rated kid will never see the field then it's silly offering him a scholarship.
5* Julio Jones and 3* Robert Lester being an example of when it's okay
5* Keenan Allen and Buffalo Bulls backup QB Zach Maynard being an example of when it's not okay

Never for Gus. He once took a low three star for a package deal, but his brother decided to go to Clemson...

Our "packaged deals" have always worked out better than expected.
We took Michael Bennett to get Martellus.
We took Red Bryant to get Jorrie Adams.

Chatman is not worth the lowest rated of the Rome 3 that is still committed to LSU. I think you only do that with elite, can't miss prospects. Chatman is good, but not that good.

What about if you go as far as OM and offer the girlfriend of a recruit a full ride as a 220 lb "track" sprinter?

Or Springdale 5 situation
That was the package deal of all time, as far as the Hogs are concerned. The winner in the deal was Gus.
The other one that comes to mind is Michael Dyer and Dakota Mosley. Dyer wanted the package deal and Petrino didn't offer Mosley until right before signing day. They ended up at Auburn with Gus. Dyer had a great first season and Mosley was convicted of armed robbery. Dyer went on to ruin his career.
