This was a letter sent by UK's president Eli Capiluto in regards to Rupp arenas renovations. Things have gotten sour lately and recently the Chairman blamed the University. This is Eli's response.

My question here is do other schools rely so heavily on tax payer dollars? I know UofL did with the YUM! Center and I think thats another reason this project is so hard to push through. Do other Universities build their own without public funding? Or do they almost always need that extra state funded support?

LSU's athletic department is completely self-sufficient and uses no student fees or tax dollars. It's one of only a handful in the nation.

As it should be. Put a dome over Commonwealth and be done with it.

Hopefully y'all get it done. RuppArena is awesome and has a lot of heritage for both UK and the SEC

Dr. Capiluoto is doing amazing things at UK. The campus' infrastructure and research facilities are his main priorities and the results are nothing but awesome. He won't budge even a little from UK's mission, education. Good for him.

No, right now UF won't even start projects until it is completely funded through donations/revenue. Rupp is somewhat different though since it isn't university owned, how much of the renovations were you expected to pay?

So the deal is over #350 million. How much does a modern state-of-the-art BBall facility cost? I remember the New Orleans Arena cost $114 million.
