Violent felony of course. I'd hate to see a Heisman candidate banned from football for removing a mattress tag.

A lot of judgments being made on the rule and its enforcement from a single tweet.

My guess is it will go something like this:

1) Player is dismissed for something that is tagged as serious misconduct.

2) If that player wishes to transfer to another conference school, that school and player can appeal to a conference appointed arbitrator of some sort. If there's reason for the misconduct to be downgraded or thrown out, the player will be allowed to transfer.

My guess is Zach Mettenberger would have won an appeal. Jonathan Taylor would not have.

Of course.

Also, in another thread someone brought up the wide variety of things, some that are pretty ridiculous, that can get you popped with a felony and registered as a sex offender.

It's not cut and dry by any means, but the fact that there are violent convicted felons playing college athletics pisses me off.

I think if you play a year in Juco any bar to transfer should be nullified. If a school is willing to take a risk on the player, that's on the school, just like NFL owners take the risk of signing a player with character issues. The NFL doesn't ban players from the league for crimes, they suspend them. A year's "suspension" from big time football seems adequate IMO.

I agree in principle, but the conference does have a financial stake in its public image.

JUCO should not wipe it out. Jonathan Taylor was in JUCO for like 4 months. These guys can go play in another conference if they want.

This is about transfers not being allowed, correct? It appears to me the player can "possibly" remain where he is depending on the magnitude and/or successful corrective action. It would be in the players' best interest to remove himself from any potential volatile situation before escalation.

Good. It's about time he nutted up. Why do you want rapists and women beaters on your team anyways. You can be mad all you want about it, but the Dean of the SEC got his way, end of story.

ETA: Coaches put restrictions on transfers all the time. Mark Richt has never, and will never restrict a kid from transferring to any school they want. It just can't happen after he gets kicked off the team for serious misconduct aka, sexual assault, DV.

So mad that Gus can take a DB from Georgia and make him a national contender, yet Richt can't even win a SEC championship with his highly touted qbs. Guess what I'm trying to say is suck that tiger dick you baby back bitch.

Let's see. The Longest Yard remake came out in 2005. AU4real35 still thinks it's awesome to say "baby back bitch" in 2015. Ergo, it takes 10 years for items from popular culture to reach a filthy, disgusting hellmouth like Gadsden, Alabama.

What other coach, besides Richt, makes absolutely no limitations for players that want to transfer. Plenty of players have transferred with no restriction by Richt. Does Les let his players transfer to another SEC school?

uga Already hamstrings itself with drug rules that no other school (save maybe Kentucky) even approach. Our potheads are benched, yours play on. To suggest Richt is trying to create a competitive advantage by keeping women abusers out of the league is fricking absurd. If anything, maybe he is trying to save some of you win at all costs teams from embarrassing yourselves and the league by putting winning over any sense of decency.

am talking about DV. If you beat your GF you should not be allowed to play at another SEC school.

Yes but should be only if convicted in a court of law. This is not a good precedent to set it leaves too much room for inconsistency.

Any punishment should require a conviction unless there is absolutely no doubt as to the guilt of the individual.

So basically, anything that would get a player a medical redshirt or a hardship waiver at Oklahoma, right?

Doesn't this rule apply to transfers?
Didn't Taylor come to Alabama from juco?
If the answer is yes to the above questions, then how would it be called the "Taylor rule"?
