Anyone else have a major problem with the way the polls work these days? UGA loses in a chaotic amped up atmosphere to a team that voters are now voting the 4th or 5th ranked team in the country depending on which poll, and they drop all the way to 11/12? And Clemson meanwhile moves way up? As far as I'm concerned, those teams played each other almost dead even, and if not for a fumbled field goal snap or if the game had been anywhere else, we might be talking about a different story. I saw nothing that I didn't already know about Georgia (great offense, inexperienced defense but should improve), So I would barely drop them at all. Same thing happens all the time. I bet if A&M loses 35-34 to Bama on a last second field goal they'll still drop 2-3 spots at least. Polls these days don't seem to be too logical

They have to have polls for the casual fans and for hype. Its much easier to hype a game up if you can say its #1 vs #5. John Doe college football fan doesnt know how good teams are relative to each other without polls.

Guess I'm the only one who strongly believes teams should fall when they lose. It's all a guessing game and you have to make room for other teams that may be better, including South Carolina, Texas A&M and LSU in this specific example. We know Georgia didn't beat Clemson, but we don't know how any of those other SEC teams would have fared.

Completely valid point - just seems like its almost turning into more of a "ladder" than an actual ranking

I agree you lose you fall.

In the end the polls all work themselves out. What difference does it make in week 2 if you're #7 or #11?

The one I have an issue with is I believe that no matter what the defending champ should be #1 in nation starting the following year. I understand that a team can lose key players and all but for me that team is #1 until they lose a game.

I think it's always been a ladder, but has been trending away from that view in recent years. I also believe that it's an aggregate of entire seasons and that the best team at the end of the season often has too many losses to be considered #1 (this isn't as true as it used to be, however.)

I also think the 2nd best team isn't always the best bet to beat the best team, because sometimes they simply don't match up well. That doesn't mean they're not truly the 2nd best team or that they don't deserve the opportunity, though.

They shouldn't have polls for the first 4 weeks. However then what would all the sport media people talk about?

You typically see rather large swings in polls early in the year. UGa is now a one loss team and I think the pollsters were pretty kind to them by keeping them near the top 10....As for Clemson, we were the 8th ranked team, beat the number 5 in the only top 10 match up that I think we can all agree was a TV hit and a classic....4th or 5th? well they had to move up to some number......

If UGA beat SCAR, they will be right back in the top 10...

By mid season when there are a lot more one and 2 loss teams the polls will start settling down

The pollsters are "all in" Clemson's arse.

We'll take care of it November 30th.

So much joy will be had in raping the hopes and dreams of a National Title from their idiotic, delusional fan base.
