GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida running back Adam Lane has been granted his release to transfer from the program, the school announced Sunday morning.

After earning Birmingham Bowl MVP honors after rushing for 109 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries, Lane fell out of favor with the Gators' new coaching staff this spring when he sat out several practices with an injury that the staff thought he could play through.

But in the end, it was family issues that ended Lane's Florida career.

"Adam Lane has some family issues that he is dealing with ad wants to be closer to home," coach Jim McElwain said in a statement "As you've heard me say many times, family comes first in this program and we will grant him his release and we will do everything we can do to help him."

Florida will rely heavily now on freshman running back Jordan Scarlett, who had already appeared to pass Lane on the depth chart. Fellow freshman Jordan Cronkrite will also likely see his role expand due to Lane's impending transfer.

Don't blame him for wanting to get out of that sinking ship.

That Lane kid had the weirdest mystical aura of any player ever at UF. Until he was the BIrmingham Bowl MVP he had not done shite at UF but people acted like he was the second coming of Jim Goddamn Brown. Well at least he left his "mark".

McElwain is trying for a historically bad offense.

They (or maybe it was just Muschamp) never really seemed to know how to use him. That's a big loss, IMO.

No McElwain offense will ever be "historically bad".

Not too surprising, he was at best going to be the third back this year.

Running back is leaving, passing game is complete shite, OL is the worst it's been in a decade...

Jim Bob is going to be lucky to go 6-6 this year. Butch and Stoops both hang up a W on this shite show.

Tennessee leaves the swamp with a W for the first time in years. Kentucky beats up on them at their place too. Florida ends up with a next to last place finish with Vandy in the East.

He has never has such a lack of talent.

I don't care how good you can coach, you must have players that can make the plays. You don't win the Kentucky Derby on a plow mule.

Truth is harsh. UF is at it's lowest level of talent since before Spurrier.

So Colorado State had more talent in 2011 than UF does now?
