GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida is giving coach Jim McElwain a $750,000-a-year raise after winning the Southeastern Conference's Eastern Division in his first season.

The Gators announced Friday they have agreed to bump McElwain from $3.5 million to $4.25 million annually, making him the highest-paid coach in the division. McElwain remains under contract through the 2020 season.

Highest paid in the East but 6th highest paid in the SEC.

He is now the sixth-highest paid in the SEC, behind Alabama's Nick Saban ($7 million annually), Texas A&M's Kevin Sumlin ($5 million), Mississippi's Hugh Freeze ($4.7 million), LSU's Les Miles ($4.39 million) and Auburn's Gus Malzahn ($4.35 million).

It's crazy what ADs gotta do now for a coach after one good season.

All that money, and he still can't fix his teeth.

Agreed. I saw somewhere that back in 2000, only Bobby Bowden, Steve Spurrier, and Nick Saban made over $1 Million a year amongst coaches.

Now everyone makes over that.

We got to Atlanta with a team that wasn't supposed to be there, even after losing our starting QB.

UF isn't back by any stretch. But reaching ATL for the first time since the Tebow era is nothing to slouch at.

EDIT: So what are LSU's standards then? Constantly boast and get your hopes up about your offense and talk a bunch of trash and have your offense still suck?

. Lighten the hell up. Damn. Just after the success of Spurrier and Meyer, it's amazing the amount of money Florida is now paying because they reached the SEC title game. No doubt a success but not where Florida was. Not saying they won't get back.

Yeah. In sports lingo, he was lost for the season due to a suspension.

Are you new to sports or is this one of those times that we have to explain stuff to the Yankee in the room?

Lol @ Kevin Sumlin and the figs.

Paying their coach 1 million more than Nick Saban in his first year and getting his arse kicked by LSU. Not to mention losing by 8 touchdowns in Tuscaloosa in 2014.
