Would anyone like to discuss the UAB shutdown on the basis of the financial implications of the commissioned study? It's a very light read. The projected numbers are on pages 14 and 16
My biggest point of contention is that the study makes the assumption that UAB will remain in conference USA. This is on page 6. If this assumption is applied to the projected revenues and expenses then those projections have no basis in reality, unless CUSA decides to change its charter for UAB. (They'll be replacing them)
Anyways, I think the study was created and skewed for the justification of shutdown. Granted, I am a layperson in terms of athletic dept. finances, so if someone could explain past my understanding, that would be appreciated.

Yep. And the projected costs of the football program were generated by asking the coaches for a wish list of facility upgrades...Seems accurate. The whole thing is a sham.

For some reason unbeknownst to me, the cost of scholarships is supposed to rise from 7 mil to 11 mil in the span of two years.

Why not just ask the (4) board members that have degrees from UAB why their voice couldn't be heard? Or even ask the (1) AU & Ole Miss board members why they hate UAB football? Since it all about the evil Bama board members.

What exactly do you mean? I'd be shocked if they were permitted to publicly say anything regarding the matter. And who knows if they didn't fight as hard as they could behind closed doors?

UAB has 19,000 students and is the largest employer in Birmingham and the state of Alabama. It's operation should accrue to the benefit of the university, the city, and the state. An unaccountable body and administration are acting against those interests for no justifiable reason other than politics and power games. That is bullshite. It's not about UAT and its not about Auburn. It's a disservice to UAB as an independent institution and to the city of Birmingham.
It is in everyone's interest for Alabama's largest city to be home to a large, successful, dynamic university.

Good post.
The losses in the report were pretty negligible, especially considering the way it's said to have been projected. The rise in expenses without a football team was extremely optimistic and the assumption that they would remain in CUSA seems unfounded. Additionally, it will likely affect student enrollment.
