The fact that UAB people have the gall to criticize Alabama people when they originally started the war by hijacking the University of Alabama's medical school and rebranding it and going so far as to shut out UASOM alums from commencement activities shows who truly started the bushleague tactics. I'd love to cut UAB loose and give them all the independence they want and it will happen the second they give the medical school that they stole back to the main campus.

Somebody on this board gets it!

Just let Auburn handle UAB football. There seems to be much more passion there than from UA or even UAB. It'll only cost you several million a year, just treat it like one of those African kids. They can send you pictures of Legion Field and tell you about their relatives. Jesus, this topic has been beaten into the ground.

This. When UAB took over the medical school, they decided that the graduates of past medical school under UA would no longer be welcome.

Lol. If you think the BOT had nothing to do with UAB football shuttering then your head is in the sand.

The President has to supposedly go through the BOT to reinstate it, but didn't have to go through the BOT to kill it? Makes sense.

By all of their canned statements of support for the president's decision, they at least approve of his shutting it down. They approved his hiring. Starts at the top and they're at the top. The president hasn't been removed or reprimanded after no confidence from everyone on campus. He is paid hundreds of thousands more than the previous president and is one of the highest paid college presidents in the country.

UAB fans should be able to upset with their own board of trustees without it being an attack against The University. Their existence is attackin' us!!

I didn't realize Alabama's funding was somehow going to UAB to support football.

Oh wait. It's not

You seem desperate to connect this to UA BOT, despite a lack of any actual evidence. Why are you carrying water for Ray Watts? Why not place the blame where it belongs? I was happy to see UAB supporters rage against Watts a few weeks ago, because at least they were blaming the right person.

Says who? Can we not have this discussion without all the hair-brained conspiracy talk?

UAB fans should be upset with UAB fans. The total lack of support is what landed UAB football on the deathbed, and a UAB man killed it off. No amount of blaming the system will change that.

Alabama has nothing to do with this, aside from the desperate attempts of AU and UAB fans to connect dots that do not exist.

You think UAB's football program was born and survived as long as it did without money from Tuscaloosa? Holy shite.

You would think Alabama football was never supported through Birmingham with how much you all despise the city and UAB football.

Did Tuscaloosa send uab football money from their funding? No.

Did some Alabama/Auburn fans support the program by going to games? Yes.

So they waited until UAB lost everything it had built only to say, 'well maybe we'll let you start over from scratch?'

Would've been nice if they'd at least gotten to go to the bowl the qualified for. Those players deserved that much.

I'm completely down with UAB football. I hope they bring it back. The right way.

Division 2

There is no gain in playing Division 2 football. You lose all the revenue and still have to pay for a decent amount of scholarships and travel. Not sure UAB could even sponsor a division 2 football team and still stay division 1 in basketball and other sports or find a conference that would do that.

If the complaint is that the athletic department isn't making money then it's FBS football or don't bother. Athletic departments for D2 and FCS are subsidized at huge percentages with no chances of ever getting real revenue.

Alabama State - 77% Subsidy
Alabama A&M - 77% Subsidy
Wildly successful FCS Jacksonville State - 66% Subsidy.

No telling what UNA's subsidy is at the D2 level.

JSU has the lowest subsidy in their conference along with Austin Peay. Everyone else is around 80%+ subsidies.
