Why do you gumps jump on auburn fans over UAB. Its you guys that come rushing out to justify the closing of a program you supposedly care nothing about.
Because The University of Alabama is being painted as some big bad villain because the system's BOT shut down a black hole of a football program that nobody in the state cares about.
Ironically enough, the people who are bitching and moaning the most are Auburn fans.
Wonder why?
And I wonder why Bama fans get defensive.

Why don't you cry about it like the Auburn fans?

Why is stupid shite like this said by fans of other schools? Auburn and Alabama fans argue about pretty much everything. Why would UAB be any different?

Then move the games. Put bleachers in at Regions Park. Convert it after the Barons season wraps and show the demand is there. The argument to kill UAB is driven by the low numbers. I went to Legion Field a year ago just to go. Never saw a game there, but I wanted to say I'd been. You don't have to convince me of how bad it is. I'm just telling you, UAB won't get a new stadium if the demand isn't there, regardless of location.

Agree 100%
Anybody who knows Birmgham knows the difference the location makes. UAB in the Northwest side of town in a 90 year old rust bucket. The worst part of town.
UAB is on the southside where young professionals are flocking to right now and there's pretty new construction projects going on all the time. A brand new stadium fits right in with the feel and lifestyle that is building in the Southside right now.

quote:If UAB had a 30,000 seat stadium, how many games would they sell out? I'm really just playing devils advocate here. I moved to Birmingham last July and had planned on going to a UAB game.. just never made it over there. If UAB had a 40,000 seat stadium, whether it be on campus, in a better part of town, or even Regions Field (similar to the way the old Chargers Stadium was/may still be), I think you'd see an increase in attendance. You'd also see an increase in people going to the businesses around the stadium (Nobody is going to businesses around Legion) and you'd see an increase in my property's value (condo downtown). So I'd love to see it.
I worked the BBVA Bowl one year, it was my first time in Legion Field since the last AU-UA Game. I was shocked by the condition of the stadium and especially the restrooms. I do not think there is a fan base in the country that would support a program that had to play under those conditions. I am amazed by the fact they averaged 20K this year.

Because you're a bunch of pussies that like bullying other schools and closing their sports down.

That would be a great solution if Region Field wasn't so small. It has a capacity of 8,500. I know they that large grassy area but you couldn't fit enough bleachers in there to make it worth while when you're still going to average more at Legion Field than you could hold at Region Field.

What sux about this whole deal besides the kids is the fact that a damn fine football coach is sitting around twiddling his thumbs instead of coaching football.

You have to build an argument. A couple of seasons of packed crowds in the right location would be a hell of an argument for a new stadium. The problem is there aren't many good locations around Birmingham. The Met, but they failed miserably to support Alabama baseball. And Hoover is so far outside of Birmingham, would students bother to travel?

Plenty of land near railroad park. I think UAB has an option for some it.

Not a lot of students are traveling to Legion Field right now. They sure love to walk around southside though...
And a packed out Region Field would look nice and all but then people will just point to the numbers and say "oh well it was only 15,000 people in that sell out"
At least at Legion Field you can say you had 3 games where 30,000 people showed up to that shithole, so give is a 30,000 seat stadium in a good location and let us do that every game.

I have an idea
UAB vs Alabama 2017 first game back for UAB.

There's land by UAB. They own all the land to left right when you get off Univeristy that's across from te baseball stadium and soccer fields. They were going to level all those building and several blocks and put it there in the stadium proposal that was submitted a couple years ago.
It was part of a plan to turn the UAB campus into a "Super Block" and make it look like an actual college campus. IMO not only would that be a God send for UAB but for the whole city too.

Sounds like a bloodbath
Would never happen though, Bama is too scared to play UAB in any sport.

We played them in both softball and baseball this year. Once at Regions Park (won 7-2) and once in Hoover (won 5-1)
Softball also played them in Tuscaloosa (won 14-1) and once in Birmingham (won 10-0).
I know, not basketball or football, but you said any sport.

Not scared....it's just we have nothing to gain from doing so...we win, everyone expects it....we lose, well then UAB (and AU fans such as yourself) will go on a chest beating excercise we will never hear the end of.....
