This was UABs plan all along. They knew they were a stagnant program so they sacrificed one year in order to get all the lazy UAB fans to finally come to games and pull out their checkbooks.

Maybe we should add them to the SEC
Saban would never allow it. He still has nightmares about UAB, hence why he got baby bear to kill the program. It was all done so lil' Nicky can get to sleep at night.

I have a feeling that you actually believe this. That makes you a very sad individual.

A unique way of revitalizing a program indeed. But for it to come back Watts will have to admit he was wrong in the first place. Just not sure he will ever do that.

Two things:
1) regarding UAB coming back, no one cares. If they cared in the first place attendance wouldn't have been a problem and profit would have been such that you couldn't even justify consideration of killing the program, much less actually doing it.
2) Tony Kurre knows two things very well. 1) Jack, and 2) Shite.

If people really cared where their tax dollars were going in Birmingham.. I promise this would not be the main thing they were concerned about.

Where were all these big UAB guys when the seats at games were empty and the team needed support?
UAB averaged 21,841 fans per home game in 2014.
5th most in CUSA.
That's for a 6-6 team that hadn't been to a bowl game in a decade.
Why? Because it was obvious that what Bill Clark was building.
UAB just had two guys drafted and several of their transfers went to P5 schools. The program was building and if Bill Clark didn't leave for somewhere bigger then in 5 years UAB would have been the class of the CUSA and risen their program the way Memphis and Louisille did 10 years ago.

Is that "ticket sales" or actual people in the stadium?
ETA: Because Birmingham was already buying 5,000 tickets a game and UAB also purchases a lot of tickets from themselves and a lot of those tickets go unused.

That's what reported by the NCAA. They sold nearly 22,000 tickets a game and whether or not that many people showed up they still made the money for those tickets.
Both the pictures below are from 2014. Legion Field has a current capacity of 71.5 thousand. Add in the other side of the stadium you can't see and 22k doesn't look like a stretch

That is the main side people sit on because 1. it is in the shade and 2. it is the home side.

the year off could possibly give UAB the "new coke' bump, taking football away for a year has certainly motivated it`s fan base and contributors.
