First, when is the last time a SEC coach was fired mid season? Was it Houston Nutt? Second, when is the last time any college football coach was fired, mid season, when the team wasn't below .500?

I think LSU is in fairly limited company here.

Set the bar in coach's salaries when we paid Coach Saban to come to LSU and all other fans freaked out

Now we setting the bar again. When another university terminates its head football coach 3 games into a season not a word will be said

Looked it up and this is correct. He was fired before the final game of 2012.

I can't think of an instance where it's ever happened in CFB. Not without exigent circumstances, at least.

I understand it, but it's crazy. LSU still basically controls it's own destiny in the SEC West.

Can't recall. That said. I think the administration could have waited until end of regular season. You can't negotiate th coached during the season right now anyway and your the only job open so far. Timing was just bad. Should have just don't it last year and this wouldn't have been an issue.

Agents can be spoken to though, even if it's not anything official. I agree with your second point. If he was on such a short leash he should have been let go at the end of last year.

LSU's administration has fricked this situation up badly.

Any advantage to letting Les go now is that agents of other coaches can be approached using back channels as to the job.
This is how Saban was hired at Bama. Sexton and Mal Moore were in contact weeks before the official announcement was made.
IMO this is the better time to let Les go.
Time to move forward.

The administration made the call when they could make it. The administration had to know the ultimate outcome and probably thought waiting would just cause more speculation and distraction for coaches, players and recruits alike. I suspect that the team will play more relaxed knowing they are not trying to save a coach's job. If LSU plays well down the stretch (not unlikely given the talent), a lot of very good coaches are going to be knocking at the door wanting to be the head guy for a stable program that will go into the 2017 season ranked in the top 10 preseason with another top 5 recruiting class intact.

bullshite on the recruits. It's gonna be open hunting season on yalls commit list. But you would realize that if you took off the rose colored glasses.

We just fired our coach.

That's not a stable program.

And that statement makes you sound like a longhorn.

They sound like every program that has replaced a legend the last 20 years. Most of those programs got a reality check.

Is Miles a legend now? 8 months ago he was the only reason LSU hadn't won 2-3 more titles in the last decade.

It's hard to keep up with this place.

We fricked up.

I really hope O gets it done and remains our coach.

Cause we aren't getting Fisher or Herman.

And I really don't want either.
