Trolling aside, the state of SEC football is miserable

Last year was easily the worst season for SEC football top to bottom since 2000.

This season was the first year there weren't multiple SEC programs in the preseason top 10 in about two decades as well.

This season appears to shaping up to be just as bad, if not likely worse, than last year.

A small pod of teams are better than they normally are (MSU, Vandy, Kentucky) but I don't think anyone honestly expects them to make any noise of any significance at a national level or be a top 10 team at season's end.

I'll ignore the dumpster fires at Missouri and Texas A&M, our special needs Big12 brethren, but programs like Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, LSU, these are supposed to be the meat of the competition in the conference and they all look woeful. Even in games they are managing to win, they look ugly and terrible in doing so. Losing is bad enough, but you have teams looking absolutely awful every week, even in victory.

The recruiting rankings and NFL drafts still say the SEC is loaded with the most talent, why has the bottom fallen out in terms of play?

I know "Saban" is the go to response and is likely true in some cases. I think it's clear LSU blew up their football program due to Saban Derangement Syndrome but I'm not sure about the rest.

Saban has destroyed the SEC.

VOLS, LSU, Gators, UGA and Auburn are all trotting out clown show coaching staffs.

Sad!

Saban had a part in the decline of LSU, Florida, and Auburn. Outside of Bama, those were the teams that played a part in the "SEC dominance" narrative. Everybody else was just riding coattails.

Florida and Tennessee are still good teams.

Georgia is a good team.

Miss State is a good team.

Auburn may or may not be a good team.

Alabama is a good team.

Half the teams in the conference are good teams.

What other conference can you say that literally half of them are good?

All the other conferences have 1 or 2 good teams.

SEC still legit.

IamReality still not legit.

At this point, UGA is the SEC's only hope of having a viable 2nd team and a decent, ranked matchup in the SEC title game. And it is led by a true freshman.

This is how the SEC has always been. Alabama made SEC football what it is today. The only time the other teams have been considered pretty good is when Alabama sucks. Alabama is one of the top 5 programs in the IS and has been for over 100 years and it is ridiculous for other schools in the conference to compare themselves to Alabama. Just enjoy beating us every now and then!

Which came first the chicken or the egg ? Sabans success can be credited to the downfall of the SEC just easily as the leagues downfall being blamed on him. The SEC hasn't produced any QBs that have been worth a damn besides Cam, Tebow, JFF, Murray, and maybe Kelley and Dak during Nicks tenure. Most of those beat Sabans best teams.

Do what? Considering his run started in 2008 the middle of the sec dominance I find little validity to your statement. This is a product of what society demands now which is instant success. The idea you get 4 yrs any more is laughable. There were great coaches ran out of this conference because fans can't be patient and AD overreact. There's a reason dynasty like these don't happen often.

Exaggerate much?

We won't be playing for a national title this year, but your characterization is misplaced.
Coaches come and go from all programs--it's the inevitable way of things--and a change is undoubtedly coming to College Station.
In the meantime, we'll enjoy some games this year and gnash our teeth at others.
But don't pull us into your "whoa is us," "the SEC is miserable" pity party.

the coaching is arguably the worst it's ever been. When Dan Mullen is inarguably the second best coach in the conference, there's problems. Outside Saban and Mullen I wouldn't call any other coach in the conference above average. It's quite pathetic.

I attribute it to the league's lack of QBs. When he has played this better than average QBs, his record has been a little above .500. The problem has been the SEC hasn't produced that many the last 10 years. I will use the last three years of the playoffs to prove my point. He lost two games to an above average QB and the one he won against them, it came down to the last minute of the game.

can you name all the coaches that were run out in less than 4 years? Derek Dooley is the only one I can think of.

And let's not pretend like Alabama has ever been patient.
Saban was in the SEC championship game in year 2 and won the national title in year 3. Don't act like they were patient with Saban and that their patience resulted in a dynasty. How long have Alabama coaches who didn't win early lasted in Tuscaloosa since Bear Bryant?

Ray Perkins - 4 years, fired
Bill Curry - 3 years, fired
Gene Stallings - won national title in year 3, he got to stay
Mike Dubose - 4 years, fired
Dennis Franchione - 2 years, and oddly enough dumped Alabama for A&M
Mike Price - I won't include him
Mike Shula - 4 years, fired

So what exactly is different today of people wanting instant gratification?

What has happened recently is that the timing all fell where a lot of big programs had new coaches all at the same time and many made poor hires.

Not particularly good, 5-6.

Alabama beat FSU
Georgia beat Notre Dame
South Carolina beat NC State
Tennessee beat GA Tech
Vanderbilt beat Kansas State

Auburn lost to Clemson
Florida lost to Michigan
Texas A&M lost to UCLA
Ole Miss lost to Cal
Arkansas lost to TCU
Missouri lost to Purdue
