Travel going to be an annoyance for both fanbases, mainly Clemson, this weekend

Hartsfield Jackson (ATL) is already warning of lots of delays and cancellations, Delta and SW both offering to remove change fees to get people to fly out of other locations. Upstate South Carolina could get anywhere from 2-6'', Atlanta 2-4'' (and with a history of such great winter storm management), with highs in the low-mid 30's post-snow on Saturday/Sunday.
Hopefully everything clears out, the government does their job on the roads and everything is smooth sailing.

Leave Friday night and grab a cheap hotel somewhere near Jacksonville or Tallahassee?

Where do you get this information from Hartsfield? Is this for Friday and/or Saturday?

Yea - the worst of it in Atlanta is Friday night through Saturday morning.
And then we'll have all 37 Metro Atlanta mayors arguing about who should be doing what, it will get cold, everything will freeze and nobody will move for 3 days.
MURICA!

Atlanta Journal-Constitution
AJC - Airport, Airlines Prepare for Storm to hit Southeast
quote:
Both Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines are warning that flights to Atlanta and other cities in the Southeast may be impacted by the weather.
Atlanta-based Delta is waiving certain change fees for those with flights booked Jan. 6-7 to, from or through Atlanta, Asheville; Birmingham; Charlotte; Chattanooga; Columbia; Fayetteville; Greensboro; Greenville/Spartanburg; Huntsville; Jacksonville; Knoxville; Nashville; New Bern, N.C.; Newport News; Norfolk; Raleigh-Durham; Tri-Cities, Tenn.; and Wilmington, N.C.
Those whose flights are cancelled or significantly delayed are entitled to a refund.
Delta said its teams are preparing for de-icing and snow preparations.
Dallas-based Southwest warned that its flights Jan. 6-7 to or from Atlanta, Birmingham, Charlotte, Greenville/Spartanburg, Nashville, Norfolk and Raleigh/Durham may be delayed, diverted or canceled. Passengers with flights booked for those dates can rebook or travel standby without paying any additional charge, according to Southwest.
Travelers still planning to fly over the weekend should check their flight status frequently for updates.

Lol dont count on Atlanta getting it right. I know they are preparing the truck we just dont have a whole lot of them. Also NWS is now talking 4+ in eastern metro ATL. The high Saturday is 33 and cloudy and the low Saturday night is 17. Anything that falls wont melt quickly and will refreeze Saturday night

You mean Atlanta right? Only place where I've ever heard of everyone abandoning their vehicles for 2" of snow.

Technically, there are 80 metro Atlanta mayors, but you're spot on about the arguing and the mess that is going to take place this weekend.

Yep. I am planning on leaving Monday morning and have next to zero confidence that 285/75 will be clear enough for me to drive safely. I'll probably do it anyway, but it will take them getting 4-5 of these things right before they regain my trust after sitting in a car for 11 hours a few years ago.

Only the ones in North Fulton, Cobb and Northwest DeKalb generally do the public arguing

Well, when you've sat in it for 10 hours with a 1st grader, haven't moved and about to run out of gas and have to spend the night in 26 degree weather......you'd probably get out too.
But yea, they lost any level of confidence folks had in them (Georgia, Atlanta, Fulton, Cobb, everybody) to do things like this right, and it will probably literally take them a decade to get it back. It was a disaster.

To be fair, Atlanta's mishaps in the past were related to ice rather than snow. There is a huge difference between the two. In 2011, they should have advised people to stay home and government businesses should have closed proactively.

Yea, it was the perfect storm (pardon the pun).
Nobody believes it when the weather predicts snow so everyone goes to work/school, then it happens after raining which makes it all icy, cold sets in everything turns to ice with a layer of snow on top, governments and schools freak out and the entire metro area of 4+ million lets out at the same time and gets on the roads to get home...........disaster.

Yeah, guess you're right on that.

I would suggest making the trek to Gainesville over Jax.
It'll cut down another 1.5 hours on your drive to Tampa.
Ocala would be an even better option.

Also, it isn't just an Atlanta problem.
Raleigh had an almost identical situation either last year or the year before in which they had roughly an inch of ice that stranded thousands of people on the roads and shut down the city for a few days.
Ice sucks.

I think after that debacle, GDOT bought a lot more snow plows and brine tankers so we'll see how that goes.
