All you post about is LSU on here. And, you just admitted to reading Tiger Rant. Who should I make the check out to for living in your head?

So a lot of little building crammed onto a campus with a large swamp and a golf course taking up too much space.

Lsu had this problem, they moved the golf course

As far as the golf course goes, yes. The water features at LSU...the Mississippi River and the LSU lakes...are at the western and eastern edges of campus. And LSU tends to build big and high in regards to class rooms and campus facilities in general.

Which is why the campus has as much open green space as it does. And why there is space for expansions and new facilities.

Don't know, but I do know that Bama leads the SEC in gymnastics attendance and top 3 nationally for decades, usually averaging around 13,500+ for home games in 15k Coleman Coliseum.

Bama softball also leads the nation in attendance for years.

Basketball, when Coleman Coliseum was the second largest arena in SEC, it was always second in SEC and top ten nationally during Wimp and Newton era. Johnson already has Bama roundball rebounding in attendance, in top 5 SEC attendance and should soon have it number two behind UK, even doing better than larger arena in Arky and UT.

Football, nuff said, always at top or near top of 101k+, other 100k+ stadia in SEC.

And I'm not arguing Alabama's excellence in these areas. Just pointing out that other schools have their success stories in other areas.

Baseball at LSU and Arkansas. Women's basketball at UT. Track at Arkansas. Soccer at TAMU. All these schools draw huge numbers in these sports.

Remember, this is about total attendance, across all sports, as a lump sum. LSU baseball is such an outlier, drawing a such huge number of fans that it dwarfs the attendance at most school's basketball programs. Let alone baseball.

1. LSU - Not much competition in the state from other La. universities. I was on Southeastern's campus the other day and it seemed like most students their wore LSU 'nalia. LSU is king in Louisiana and there's no other major program in Louisiana that can compete so a majority of Louisiana is on the LSU bandwagon.
2. Texas A&M - A&M is a cult and they must serve their A&M god. Not to mention 60K students call A&M home.
3. Florida - Nearly 55K students and huge fan base.

No space to build/expand. The swamp is almost smack dab in the middle of campus, the golf course in on campus, and UF tends to build small when it comes to class rooms.

There is space to build/expand. UF has a far larger student population which necessitates more buildings and in turn results in less green space.

The newest building was the fourth within the chemistry department and is a 112K sq foot, 6 story lab building.

Congrats on the new building, and let's agree that is outside the norm for UF.

As far as the need for more building, a few larger, higher buildings would result in more green space. Like at LSU.

The "no space" comment was not an insult, but an observation in regards to UF athletic facilities in general.

The athletic facilities are hemmed in with either buildings or roads and have little to no room for additions/expansions.

Your new indoor facility could only be built by building on top of an existing practice field. This at time when schools are looking to expand their practice area. Tennessee just added two additional practice fields, for example.

I'm not throwing stones here. Things are what they are. I was asked why Arkansas facilities are uniformly larger and nicer than Florida's and I answered that lack of space on Florida's part was the reason. And I stand by that.

Remember, Florida has a 2,000 acre campus, while Arkansas has only 412 acres. It's just a difference in the way that both campuses are laid out that's the difference.

I'll say that most of what gets built is expansion within a college. Not a whole lot of need to build something overly large, that said I don't think the chemistry building is that far off the norm of new construction on campus. Guess I'm curious what new buildings show this trend at UF?

We do have some space limitations for athletics, but IMO our bigger problem has been poor planning. We didn't have to build the IPF on top of the practice field, but we got overly complacent and didn't take care of other facility needs earlier. There is space to build a new baseball stadium or track near the lacrosse and softball facilities, or we could have simply incorporated the track into the new lacrosse facility. Instead we waited around and then rushed to get the IPF done backing ourselves into a corner at that location. Hopefully that is a thing of the past, there is actually talk of moving those facilities again to get some practice space back.

Once Bud Walton Arena was built Arky immediately became#2. You will probably need to avg. well over 16k to move to the #2 spot moving forward IMO. Arkansas is going to start putting 18k on the regular. A lot of optimism about the next few years here.

Arkansas has only outdrawn Tennessee in MBB twice in the last 10 years.

Depends how Tennessee is doing. 13K is about the floor for Tennessee attendance due to season tickets. A serviceable product and Tennessee will be sitting comfortably around 16K which is more than Coleman holds.

A good product and we will be back at ~19K/night as we were in the late 2000s.

I'm sure it had NOTHING to do with the fact that LSU was playing in an elimination game that day to move on to the WORLD SERIES! Lol

Good try tho

Bud Walton was opened in 1994. We were #2 in the SEC for the next 11 years (1994-2005). That was my point.
We have been #2 for the last 2 years as well.

There's a reason no one ever bothers to calculate this.
