I'm surprised about this one. I hate it...but I'm excited to see this guy...he has legendary written all over him:
16. Dylan Moses, LB (2017) (#13)
It's amazing that Auburn has done as well as it has with that many flameouts of our top recruits. I mean...holy hell.
Those that fell far short of potential or left the program:
1. Byron Cowart, DE (2015) (#3)
2. Michael Dyer, RB (2010) (#8)
4. Christian Westerman, OT (2011) (#10)
7. Roc Thomas, RB (2014) (#23)
8. Trovon Reed, ATH (2010) (#24)

That list pretty well sums up the consistency at Alabama v. the inconsistency at Auburn. Not only does Bama have far better talent at the top, the vast majority of those top recruits became stars in college football. If you look at Auburn's list nearly half of them were busts, transferred, or were kicked off the team.
In fact, in Bama's top 20, only two of those arguably have been busts....Dashawn Hand and Tony Brown. And both of those will likely be starters this season with the potential to be stars. The rest are either freshmen or have been All America level players. Saban does a damn good job of not only recruiting, but developing these top recruits and keeping them on campus.

Every player on that list was either a 1st or 2nd round pick or is currently on the roster.
That's pretty incredible.

I would have to put Julio #1 for Bama. That turned heads all over the country and announced Bama was back. Julio was the #1 prospect in the country and Bama's recruiting had been shite the previous years. Huge get at the time and a program changer.

They aren't ranking them by their opinion they are ranking them by their 247 Composite National Ranking.

Well..yes and no. Alabama's top recruits were more talented in general so they were going to be more likely to succeed than Auburn's regardless of what Alabama did to develop them. I only see 3 busts on AU's list (Cowart, Reed and Frazier)and Cowart just moved to DT so the jury is still kind of out on him. The big difference is the attrition at AU vs Bama. Most of the guys at AU either were kicked off the team, or left because they weren't anointed the immediate starter...which is why some of the big recruits choose AU...whereas I'm quite certain that no recruit chooses Bama with that idea in mind...so they are already prepared to be patient.

Duckworth, hope you stick around. People with brains and the ability to have conversations are very very very badly needed in these parts.

And people (including myself) wonder why these 5 stars keep coming to Alabama knowing that 3 other 5 stars are ahead of them on the depth chart. That is why. You may have to wait until your senior year to be a full time starter (like Reuben Foster did), but it will pay off.

Wouldn't you say all the guys kicked off Auburn's team were busts as well

That's what I mean. It's Bama's ability to develop these players, and even more importantly, bought in to the system long term that separates them from everyone else just a notch below. Whether it was due to being a bust, transferring, or kicked off, any time a team loses someone they truly needed it can take a toll on the team. Bama loses transfers every season, but 9/10 times it is a player who no longer had much of a role due to being jumped by younger players on the depth chart.

Cyrus was no bust by any stretch but I expected a little more from him considering the hype out of high school. I almost feel bad and a bit spoiled after typing that.

We agree...and no one is doing it better than Bama. I'm just saying that the way Bama goes about recruiting (in large part because of their success), they are bringing on more players period AND better players AND keeping them at a higher rate than their competition. I can't remember the last time Auburn signed a full class and don't remember the last time Bama didn't. Bama would be better off even if they weren't landing better players which of course, they are. It's a wonder how they ever lose and I don't see that changing until Saban retires. All that said, the game is still played on the field (and thank God for that) and Bama is not as invincible as they ought to be...they are just closer than everyone else
