Aside from #s 3, 6, and 7, these "championships" aren't even recognized by the schools that "won" them.

Should be #1. That team dominated the competition that year. I remember doing some research in the Bryant Museum when I was a student there and seeing numerous contemporary newspaper articles practically begging Alabama and Army to play each other in the Sugar Bowl. When Army declined to play in a post-season bowl, Alabama accepted a Rose Bowl invitation.

If USC had beaten Oklahoma 28-24 instead of 55-19, no one would be talking about '04 Auburn. The only reason why it remains a discussion in SEC circles is because of how the Sooners got run out of the stadium that night.

The fact of the matter is, USC and Oklahoma began the season #1 and #2 respectively. They finished their seasons undefeated. Had Auburn not disappointed so epically in 2003, they might have been able to sneak into the national championship picture in 2004.

Fair point.

LSUpatrick, truth hurts.. it's funny that some of y'all claim that had y'all won it all that year it would be best team ever, yet couldn't cross the 50.. ouch

Bama does not claim any of those titles because, as I always have to point out, Bama only claims titles after WWII that were awarded by either AP or UPI just like every school in the country

Why would nobody be talking about arguably the best SEC team of the BCS era, just because OU hadn't gotten blown out?

And why does what happened in a completely different year matter to a different year? Oh yeah, I forgot... polls selecting championship games.

Lol, Sagarin.

A: That's not accurate
B: It also doesn't change the fact that between our two teams in 8+ quarters, exactly 1 TD was scored, and it was in the last quarter we played that year in garbage time.
-
We were the best two teams that year by a wide margin. As an LSU fan, I wish we had played Okie St in the final game. We would have destroyed them and yes, bc of our schedule that year, we would've had a legit claim to the best ever. But I knew after the first game we were the two best teams in the country.

10 fg
1 TD
2+ games

That was some crazy good defense by both teams
