A thread about Chavis or Steele pops up just about every time I get on this site, so I thought I'd turn a post I recently made into a topic to put an end to the discussion.

A&M fans need to stop acting like Chavis is the savior of defense for LSU. Bo Pelini led us to the 3rd ranked national defense for 3 straight years. Mushchamp also didn't do so bad either and had a 1st ranked national defense during his stay.

The only difference between Chavis and these two are that Pelini and Muschamp actually brought home a National Championship for LSU. We're gonna have a top notch defense no matter who the coordinator is because we can field the talent.

Good job conveniently leaving Saban out of the equation

Saban had nothing to do with Pelini. Just FYI

Bo Pelini joined LSU after Les Miles did. If he would have been under Saban before hand then you might have a point.

This is not the end to the Chavis debate.

The end to the Chavis debate is something neutral like:

"Look, both LSU and A&M COULD HAVE upgraded! It is not either/or, as Chavis could be a better fit with A&M and Steele might be a better fit with a current LSU."

What you did was dump purple and gold gasoline on the fire.

So, I guess Miles is responsible for all of Chavis' success?

I'm glad we cleared that up.

Muschamp and Pelini are elite defensive coordinators though. Steele isn't. And your trying to reason that since two elite defensive coordinators could field elite defenses then Steele can do it is illogical and ignorant.

Chavis, Bo Pelini, Muschamp, Steele. Which of these things is not like the others?

Hint: The guy who got 70 hung on him at his last DC stop and got fired by Clemson two years ago.

Actually if I was impartial I believe it would be easier for me to stomach the "Chavis will make the worst defense in the SEC better" line more than a "Despite being fired from the DC job twice Steele is going to mold that side of the ball into championship levels" line.

Maybe that is just me though, I don't follow Nick Saban like some do here so I don't know what I really means if he won't trust you with the entire defense and will only trust you with part of it.

compare what Pelini inherited to what Chavis inherited (2008 LSU D was rough, IIRC).

Also look at our defenses since Chavis left (UT). Not good.

Look, Third and Chavis and Two Minute Warning and Chavis are real things. But he is overall one of the best in the biz and has been for 20 years.

For Steele that isn't a bragging point.
