Are you nuts?

Grasp this for a second: not every play is going to work. Some opponents are actually interested in playing defense.

And this: no matter how good your program you're not going to win every game.

Who would have thought that Blake Sims could play so well and lead your team to the playoffs? Or that Jake Coker could make Georgia look silly? Lane Kiffin had/has a lot to do with that.

Now consider Cam Cameron, Anthony Jennings, and Brandon Harris.

You're welcome for the little dose of sanity.

I think Kiffin is great, and I think most Bama fans like him.

In some games, though, he likes to throw down field in obvious ground and pound situations. It is what it is.

I just oppose the cartoon cards. Kiffin isn't running anything that Saban hasn't signed off on.

Throwing downfield in ground and pound situations is diversification which allows for more ground and pound situations down the road.

LSU fans are quite familiar with the downfalls of sticking to what's expected.

As an LSU fan, Kiffin is a great OC. He did well with Sims and seems to have gotten Coker where he needs to be (trying not to overreact on the UGA game). He seems to be doing more than fine as an OC in the constraints of a Saban gameplan, and I look forward to the day he leaves and fails again as a head coach somewhere (hopefully this year)

I get that. But these situation happened to take place "down the road," late in games.

I thought they were trying to clean up the SEC rant? A lot of Bama fans are pretty damn critical of Kiffin on here.

I've had a few moments where I've questioned some calls but overall I think the guy has been exceptional.

You really need to go back and watch the Ohio State game and this season Ole Miss game to get an idea on what Alabama fans were saying. Also take into account we get the ball down to the 5 yard line and this guy is still running WR screen pass on first down no less. It works sometimes but Bama strength is running the ball and setting up the play action pass which was done this last game against Georgia. Now I don't know what goes on inside that program either Saban told him to pound it or the weather changed Kiffin's game plan. I agree though a good mix of pass plays and run plays are good to keep defenses honest. That is why you audible out of the run play and show formations that you run on and turn those plays into passes. That is when Bama offense is at its best. However, Kiffin has shown that he likes to pass to setup the run and that is what bothers Alabama fans.

He's great at scheming, but has some struggles, at times, in calling plays in the flow of the game. Has been hampered some by QB play, to be fair. Takes too long to get plays in more often than he should, too.

All in all, though, I like him. He won't be in T-Town next season, though.

The highest scoring teams in CFB don't decide to forsake unpredictability because they're at the 5 yard line.

What's Alabama's red zone scoring percentage been under Kiffin compared to that of other teams? You're welcome.

+1

I think maybe Rex is under the impression that we run that offense every week, which means either he hasn't watched many Bama games or he can't tell the difference between this past weekend's gameplan and most of Kiffin's other gameplans.

Saban getting mellow in his old age.
Amazing he gives Kiffin the latitude he does.

Couldn't have said it better myself. The guy is smart, but we all know he likes to get cute when he doesn't need to.

I think most people are ok with it. It's a little too west coast for me but it's also different from most Bama teams over the years. As Danielson said saturday though, he sometimes tries to get too cute close to the goal line but we had the same problem with Nuss. Cost us the A&M game in '12. All O coordinators will be compared to Mac. He was a great play caller, schemer and was perfect for Bama's type of talent on offense. He's gonna do great things at UF and I'm pulling for him in every game.
