Another story that goes back to the early part of the 20th century.

I don't know the full details, but it had to do with a yell leader asking the question of "what are we going to do to the frogs? (TCU)". "Gig 'em".

Gigging a frog is hooking it with a spear. The thumbs up motion is how the spear is held.

Just as the "Whoop" noise is similar to a train whistle.

1. Spotlight frog (preferably a large one)
2. Gig 'em
3. Clean, bread, fry (or braise 'em -- get a bit rubbery that way sometimes if you get in a hurry)
4. Tastes like chicken

Frog gig

To the OP: I don't really buy into the whole TCU story; it is brought up every now and again on the boards -- there's not much proof one way or another that 'Gig 'em' actually came about that way.

The thumbs up isn't related to the story at all, from what I recall. I for one never held a frog gig that way. You throw it like you throw any other spear.
