Which program becomes the next Blueblood for the SEC?

For those that may not know the criteria, you need multiple national titles, Heisman winners, tons of all-Americans, a 70% winning percentage since college football was invented, and over 700 or 800 wins.

TN - currently struggling but still have a .68 winning percentage in their program history. They have won a national title. They have won conference titles.

UGA .648 winning percentage. They have won a national title. Have won conference titles.

Auburn .63 winning percentage. They have won a national title. Have won conference titles.

I'm not going to spend time to do the math to figure out the number of years it will take for either program to get to .70 percent winning percentage.

Since "next" implies that none of those are there, you are saying that alabama is the only blueblood program in the SEC yes?

Is there a set number of bluebloods at one time? There are probably some midwestern bluebloods who need to have their status revoked, or at least be placed under some type of probationary watch.

It is a general accepted criteria.

Michigan, Texas, Nebraska, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Alabama, and USCw are the Bluebloods.

Nebraska should have its "blueblood" status revoked.

Michigan should follow after another couple of shitty seasons.

LSU is closer to reaching this than UGA and Auburn. Tennessee probably reach it before LSU, but LSU could catch up if Butch fails.

For my money, they are all pretty much 'Blue Bloods.'
Tennessee I believe is 8th all time in number of victories, Georgia 10th, LSU 11th, Auburn 15th.
Bama is 5th or 6th I think. Florida is closing in.

All have won at least 1 NC since 1980, with UF, Bama, and LSU winning multiple ones within the last 12 years.

Tennessee always has been a blueblood since the 1930's.

If Harbaugh is as good as I think he will be, they'll be back to what they were in the mid-late 90s. That's solid blueblood status.

quote:

Texas

They're a traditional powerhouse, yet somehow they are still one of the most underachieving programs historically in CFB. How in the hell has their QB play (since McCoy) been so awful despite being the flagship program in the most talent rich state in America?

quote:

Nebraska

Their status is on thin ice. Everyone getting TV exposure has really hurt Nebraska. Kids don't have to go from Florida, California and Texas to Nebraska to be seen on television anymore.

quote:

Ohio State

The only things that could stop Meyer from going on a historic tear over the next 5-10 seasons are Harbaugh and a desire to see his family more.

quote:

Notre Dame

See Nebraska. They'll always be good, but it's getting a little harder to convince kids from the South to go live in middle of nowhere, Indiana for 3-4 years.

quote:

Oklahoma

They're fine, but it's getting close to time for a coaching change. Stoops has gotten stale. Getting passed in the B12 pecking order by Baylor and TCU is unacceptable for Oklahoma.

quote:

Alabama

They aren't going anywhere.

quote:

USCw

Getting drilled by the NCAA for all the Bush stuff and two bad coaching hires have them trending down. The sanctions are finally done, but they'll have to hit a homer with their next hire. I don't think Sarkisian gets it done and he's out within 3 years.

Tennessee has won over 800 games and has multiple National Titles. We are a top 10 program all time. If that makes us a "Blueblood" then so be it

we are going to need to move to the big 10 or 12 to get there.

Tennessee is the most qualified to be in the category now, and the most likely to fall out if they already haven't.

Auburn is the most likely based on present trajectory and recent exhibited ability to reach the pinnacle.

UGA has the most potential of the 3.

LSU is also a good candidate, although its best run may have ended already.

I looked up the definition for giggles and found this gem from Oxford Dictionaries.

noble birth:
"blue blood is no guarantee of any particular merit, competence, or expertise"

Joking aside all three programs have a proud history to look back on and with the right coaching team in place can do very well.

There are teams that used to be among the elite but aren't there now (Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Nebraska for example). There are teams that went through purgatory before finding their way back to elite status (Alabama is a shining example of this.)

There are former elites who will never get back to where they were before. (Army, Minnesota, the Ivy League schools). There are schools that probably will never make it (too many to list).

Better to have been there and lost it, and have some faint hope of getting it back... then never have been to the top of the mountain before.
