Mature, experienced QB. However he never really progressed at OU and it'll all depend on how well he picks up Mazzone's offense.

How's aTm's OL looking this year? If he's running for his life obviously he won't be putting up great numbers regardless of the WR talent.

I think there's one word and that is: inconsistent.

However, he was put in an offense (Nevada Pistol) that requires the QB to zone-read run at times to keep the defense honest (the BASE PLAY is an inside zone read), but the OU coaches wouldn't allow him the run option on those plays because they feared injury, so the coaches had partially neutered him, and their own offense. It'll be interesting to see what he can do when he isn't handicapped by being stuck in something stupid like banned from zone-reading in a zone read offense!

Tough to actually judge. He has more WR talent, but much less of a running game to help take pressure off of him.

Anywhere from 2nd-8th, or so, is possible depending on how he does week in and out against SEC defenses.

Probably top 5 until he starts playing SEC defenses.

He'll be at the top of the list... in interceptions.

Middle of the pack. He probably gets A&M to another 7-8 win regular season.

Brandon Harris had better stats in the SEC as a soph than Knight did as a soph in the big 12. End of discussion

Why? Because it appears most of the QBs outside of Swag are either bad or unproven. So it isn't going to take a herculean effort to be top 3 or 4. He also has one of the best WR groups in the nation to throw to. Reynolds, Kirk, RSJ, Speedy, and anyone else who steps up.

As for his time at OU it was very inconsistent. I don;t knock him for the transfer. The guy who beat him out and was a Heisman finalist was a transfer too. He showed flashes, but was accurate enough.

Fair statement going into the season, but who knows who steps up or improves (fingers crossed on this end).

Defenses should be a step above the Big 12, so he may stumble some with a few good and not so good performances throughout the year.

Really, you want to compare Brandon Harris with anyone? Probably should hold your tongue a bit until mid October.

Josh Dobbs vs Trevor Knight vs Brandon Harris

passer rating: 123.5 vs 124.9 vs 136.8
completion %: 60.6 vs 57.1 vs 54
passing yds/attempt: 6.5 vs 7.0 vs 8.1
rushing yds/attempt: 4.6 vs 5.7 vs 4.1
TDs to Ints: 26/17 vs 25/19 vs 19/8

His career numbers are comparable to Dobbs and Harris. He's the best rusher of the three.

4th isn't a bad spot given the WR talent TAMU has. Regardless of where he falls on the scale, I expect him to be a solid QB for A&M.

I think this is where I land too. It all hinges on the oline play. Could be better or worse depending on them.

You think Dobbs and Harris are both bad college quarterbacks?

I'm just considering what's around him, and I think the transfer to the SEC gives him a chip on his shoulder. I see him pulling an upset or two and maybe surprising folks.

What are the Aggie fans' thoughts on his time at Oklahoma? Not discredit the flashes we saw at OU, but I think we have to assign a question mark to any transfer at any school. You say you think he could be 3rd or 4th best in the league..why is that?

After a few injuries at WR that roster was decimated. He pressed a bunch because he had absolutely no help and their was a bunch of pressure put on him after the Bama win. They later changed to an offense that Mayfield had already had experience with and Mayfield barley beat out Knight; who was recovering from an injury that many thought was career ending.

He has tons of talent around him at A&M and a coach that has experience with the run read option which will further optimize his talent. He just needs to not force things.

I think he might struggle against the talented 3-4 defenses at Bama and LSU. UCLA and Auburn have familiarity with this type of offense, so they may provide a challenge too.

*I typically assign ? to transfers too, except when they are transferring closer to home. Lots of factors benefit these types of transfers.

Not many people are talking about a pretty big factor, aTm's ability to run the ball. Knight wasn't terrible in 2014 with Perine behind him.
