Time for the divisions to go away in football.

Is there any way this happens? Either let the top two teams play in the championship game or do away with it completely. Only two games have been somewhat competitive in the last 15 years.

I don't think you need divisions for a title game anymore but it's impossible to have a round robin schedule.

No, what we need to do is go back to 12, if not 10 teams and play round robin.
The ONLY reason, ONLY reason we are where we are now is money. Yes, that's a good reason but....we didn't add these teams to play better football. Out of the new additions only A&M and Arkie had any kind of football legacy and it was spotty even then. We added TV markets which is not always improving football play. I mean, WTF is South Carolina and Mizzou doing here? Mizzou, maybe basketball (which nobody outside kentucky really cares) but USCleast brings jackshite.

If we went to a truly round robin format, you would inevitably have years where a decent team managed to get the 8 worst teams on the schedule and make it to the championship. And then you would want to go back to divisions so there would be some semblance of common opponents.
Divisions are staying.

Agree, we should go back to 10. Say goodbye to Moo State, USCjr, Arky, and Mizzou. Make the SEC great again!

Why?
The two best teams in the conference are playing each other a week before the championship game. Whoever wins the Iron Bowl wins the SEC.

You do know that Missouri has won the East more than any other team since they've joined the conference, sans Florida, right?

If you really wanted the SEC to competitive again all you'd have to do is kick out Alabama.
They're dominating, get rid of them, the playing field evens out quite a bit.
ETA, think ab the last 5 years; no Alabama would have produced going backward Ole Miss, State, Auburn, Georgia, and LSU as champions, a different champion each year.

2011 would have been nuts it Bama beats LSU in the SEC championship then turn around and played again in national title.

Talk about the "Wahhh, it's too hard!" approach.
I mean, damn.

Not at all. It is very easy. 3 perminanant opponents rotate 5 every other year. But it would take actual leadership, something we do not have.

I tend to agree. There will always be issues with maintaining balanced divisions. Just let the 2 best SEC teams play for the SECC. This year is particularly out of whack when there are probably 4 teams in the West that are better than the best team in the East.

If it went to 3 permanent rivals, dibs on Vandy, Kentucky, and Mizzou.
