Ticket Sales

At Auburn, we have trouble selling out except in years where we have both of our main rivals (UGA and Bama) at home in the same year. With all of Alabama's success, I was surprised that they also have trouble selling their tickets, especially with a scheduled that includes one of their major rivals. Got this in my email today.
I think this shows the trend of folks staying home, the cost of tailgating at Auburn or Bama ($$$ to Tailgate Guys), etc.
5 Game Mini Plan Starting at $335
Includes Tennessee
Choice of Ole Miss or Arkansas
Plus Fresno State, Colorado State, and Mercer
3 Game Mini Plan Starting at $180
Choice of Ole Miss or Arkansas
Pick 2: Fresno State, Colorado State, or Mercer

Knock this shite off, and people would be more inclined to buy.

If you want to sell your nosebleed seats you gotta get creative at times. Also, ticket sales are handled differently these days than they used to be and now they often go through a 3rd party the school hires to rep them instead of the school directly and many use both direct sales and the third party rep. The third party reps, no doubt make their money by guaranteeing x number of sales ahead of time. That allows ADs to budget without as much guesswork regarding revenue.
Schools could wait and very likely sell all of those tickets during the season but there's a benefit to having those sales ahead of time.

They have a party bus that runs from Mobile to T-Town and back on gamedays from Mobile. It costs $45 per person and is a really good deal. Its the easiest way to travel if you cant get a room

This is the downside of a 100,000+ seat stadium. Trying to sell the nose bleed seats when it's not a major game.

I think it's just a sign of the times. The games almost always have near sellout-level crowds, its just that there's really no need to buy season tickets if you're like most people and you go to a select few games a year. I go to between one and three games a year, and I'm always able to scalp tickets, or buy them on StubHub, or something and it's far cheaper than buying a season ticket or even one of those mini-packages, even if I overpay for a big rival game. There is really no allure for the "package" tickets. Every so often we'll even go to a shite game so we can bring all the kids and we almost always get in for a fraction of the cost of a face value ticket. I took them to AU/Samford a couple years back and a woman handed me 5 tickets and said, "enjoy the game. War Eagle".

I bet part of the issue is the visiting team returning tickets.
But I would be suprised if Tennessee returned any.

One aspect that folks usually overlook is the large visiting fan section at SEC venues. You can sell every available seat for season tickets, and then still have trouble selling the 7000 or so seats you have to save for SEC road teams when some scrub non-conference team comes to town, or even when an SEC team that doesn't travel well comes to town.
The Big XII only required teams to set aside 3850 tickets for visitors, and I think the Big Ten requires less than that.

Jordan Hare isn't 100,000 + seat stadium. It likely has to do with some of the games, the costs, the record last year and uncertainty this year, etc.

Exactly right. Plus alumni are more spread out than ever and I think that is also having a big impact. Out of state alumni might travel back for a couple of games, but it's not that feasible for most to go back for all 7-8 home games so the cost of season tickets isn't justified for a lot of those people. You come out a lot better paying a price (even a premium price) for the 2-3 games you make it too. That's my situation. If I was in Birmingham I'd get season tickets. But I live in Atlanta with two young children. I'll go to the Chick-Fil-A kickoff against FSU and try to get to UT and LSU in Tuscaloosa and that will be about all time allows for. I'm married to an AU grad so we will go to Auburn for the Iron Bowl too. Season tickets make zero sense.

Obviously, but the OP wasn't talking about JHS either.
