Thoughts on Vols claiming 1956 National Title?

Vols won two games vs. ranked teams, including winning and shutting out #2 Georgia Tech in Atlanta.
OU won one game vs. a ranked team all year @ #18 Colorado, 27-19 when they were 4 TD favorites.
Sure, Tennessee lost the bowl game, but OU didn't play in a bowl game that year and the national title had already been decided before bowls were played.

Did they finish #1 in either of the two major polls (AP or UPI). If not, then not a legit championship.

I think its ludicrous for programs to do this nonsense.
Mizzou could "Claim" a couple of football titles but has remained above doing this type of silly shite. You look at some of the individual seasons of college football and you have 3 or 4 teams laying some kind of claim in some of them. Its laughable and I chuckle at programs that do this.

The AP existed in 1941 and Bama claims that one (a lot of Bama fans, including this one, don't get it and feel like it shouldn't be recognized by Bama). The AP was relatively new, but it did exist at that time.
All other NC recognized by Bama were major polls or the Rose Bowl winning teams from the pre-poll era. Fine with all of those.

No div 1 or fbs team has ever won a national title. You cant win a title by being VOTED into a game.
