I don't even know what that means. Football is big at Alabama, so that made him a shitty basketball coach? It's not like our basketball program has been terrible historically with no support.

I agree with you about saying that Grant's certainly not an awful coach. I also agree that he could have won more with better players.

He actually had a pretty strong team when Green, Mitchell, Hillman etc were there even if those weren't his recruits and there was some depth to run his pressing defense.

I would also love to see him get another chance and succeed. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

However, I do think that potential success may come due to him growing as a head coach by addressing the things he could have done better at Alabama.

1) getting his players better organized on offense, looking confident and actually enjoying what they're doing

2) simply recruiting enough players to make a difference.

This last part may well be his reluctance to "get his hands" dirty in the recruiting meat market.

However, like I said earlier, all the previous Alabama coaches before him managed to always have a couple of high caliber big men (all SEC, at least borderline NBA talent) on the roster from the 1970s until he took over.

Five years was long enough to at least bring in one player that contributed to the level of which 2 or 3 had been doing on the roster for the previous 30 years.

I mean, if you followed it as closely as you're saying, you wouldn't be tossing around ridiculous assertions like the boosters did him in. You can try to justify it by saying it's that your 'perspective is different' but the thing is, it's not a defensible comment from any perspective. It's patently ridiculous.

The arrogance of some people man. He's in here arguing with like 10 diehard Alabama basketball fans that he knows more about our program than us. Unreal. I mean I started this thread defending Grant; you really haven't left us much of a choice here though with your ridiculous claims.

Get a grip, man. I'm not trying to claim that I know more about the program than you. I'm not trying to challenge you. I'm just sharing my opinions on Grant's failures, and I think I followed the program more than enough to not be talked down to like this when voicing those opinions.

The fact that you think that I'm being arrogant is pretty amusing

I mean, you are. You continue to contend that somehow these toxic boosters brought a good man down, even after like, 6 pages of posters telling you how ridiculous that is.

He would've gotten another HC job if it was just bad circumstances or he wasn't given a fair shake. Somebody else would notice what you're apparently noticing.

Unfortunately it couldn't be any clearer that he was given every opportunity and straight up failed. That's why he's back to being an assistant.

You don't think that he could have gotten a HC job at a low-major if he had wanted?

An assistant job in the NBA isn't exactly a shitty job

He would have taken a head coaching job if one was available to him.

The lengths you'll go to defend Grant make me think you actually are Anthony Grant.

tell me why UF did not hire him will Billy the Kid went to to OK. City.

If he was such a great coach as you say. Did you guys even have him on your short list. His biggest failure was not promoting the BB team with the local media. He was an introvert in an extroverted world and that chit does not bode well for a big time program, which is what Alabama was under Wimp and aspires to get back too. People say he recruited well. Proof is in the pudding at the few players that made it to the NBA

Rick Ray is a HC right now

You don't think they'd take Grant over him?

Grant is still too high-profile of a name to accept a SWAC level job. He'll wait in his cushy NBA job until a mid-major comes calling.

I'm sure some arrogant fan will fight me on this point too, though

The fact that his has made it to 9 pages this would be 100% correct. Dude has fricking lost it.

Or maybe I just disagree with you and don't care that my opinion goes against the grain

At least that's what the voices have told me

You need to learn the difference between a fact and an opinion. The fact is that Grant was a bad fit at Bama and was provided a longer tenure then he should have been given.
