The plaintiffs are clearly just trying to get paid by the university. If this all just quietly goes away, it will mean they got their wish. The obvious question will be why?
If UT is clean, I'm sure they'll be more than happy to go to court to clear their name.

They would be stupid to do that. The bad press isn't worth winning as the followup press that declares a win in the case won't help. No one will care if UT wins. As evidenced by the 7000 threads started by OM + UF + this one, UT is guilty regardless of any trial or facts. What Drae Bowles said himself doesn't matter and any other facts don't matter. The only 'win' is to pay the lawsuit extortion money and settle for making it go away.

That's the way I'd spin it.

Bowles said under oath that none of this is true. He is also the son of a police officer, I don't think he'd risk lying under oath.

Not necessarily. A drawn out court case looks bad, and it's costly, regardless of the outcome. It's cheaper to settle.

I'm not saying for sure UT is squeaky clean here, there's certain things that bother me about this suit. For example, the lawsuit alleges that UT used a state specific law to circumvent a title 9 law. That's not ok, and it looks bad.
