This Les Miles situation reminds me of Gene Stallings

Im sure some of the older Bama and LSU fans as well as others can remember when the administration decided they could do better and put so much pressure on Coach Stalllings that he retired.

What followed:

Mike Dubose
Dennis Franchione
Mike Price
Mike Shula

It was the worst 15 year run of Bama football ever until we finally hired Saban.

The opposite could happen too, we could go on a 15 year run never before seen in CFB. It is as likely as the negative wishful thinking by all non-LSU fans.

Does this mean they will hire Saban in 2030?

Those were some bad hires.

I for one hope LSU does better than that.

Pretty different, IMO. The fans were not tired of Stallings and trying to dump him. And his problem was with one administrator - a thoroughly incompetent AD.

But yes, sometimes you don't know what you've got until he's gone. I think LSU might do better, but I'm not sure it's over a 50/50 chance that they do.

It would have continued to if rich Rodriquez had not turned Bama down which opened to door for Saban to reconsider.

Just shows the luck that goes into this.

Stallings was a good coach, but I am sure those who gamble on Alabama hated his guts.

The fans didn't force Stallings out, the fans loved Stallings.

The AD and him got bad blood and the AD made a point to bitch at him a lot to the point Stallings just retired rather than put up with him.

Stallings was old anyway, he was probably close to retirement regardless.

There are many examples of this. Two quick ones:

Texas A&M forcing Slocum out, then getting Fran and Sherman (and we'll see what happens with Sumlin)

Tennessee getting rid of Fulmer, then going Kiffin, Dooley and Jones.

Heck, LSU went through this when we forced Cholly Mac out (eerily similar coach to Les Miles, BTW), then Bo Rein died, and we followed with Stovall, Arnsparger (who would have been great but didn't stay then really screwed us by hiring Spurrier), Archer, Hallman and Dinardo. You would have thought we would have learned our lesson.

Really? You believe this? You must not have paid attention to other programs making the same decisions.

Fans never turned on Stallings. It was an administrative/NCAA problem.

They should have loved him.

No matter who was favored, always take the points.

Money didn't come any freer than that.....
