And Foxsports is not anywhere close to competing with ESPN.

Florida State vs. Alabama: ABC/ESPN Highest-Rated Kickoff Weekend Game On Record
ESPN Obliterates the Competition on the Season’s First Saturday
College football’s first full Saturday saw ESPN’s networks generate 78% of the gross overnight rating points across all rated-networks. The average overnight rating for the seven games on ESPN/ABC was a 2.8 overnight, while Fox/FS1 averaged a 1.0 overnight for its four games. Comparing the four games on ESPN to the four games on FS1 + FOX Sports, ESPN alone beat them in gross rating points (4.1 to 3.9) without factoring in ABC. Also, ABC aired the three highest-rated games on Saturday, with the Akron at Penn State game (noon), joining the aforementioned two record-breaking games.
College Football and US Open Result in ESPN’s Extraordinary Streaming Numbers
The first Saturday of the college football season, combined with US Open coverage, resulted in one of the largest days ever for ESPN streaming usage, as 3,600,000 unique users viewed 255,000,000 minutes, good for third in both categories in any single day.

It's almost like they have Disney backing them. Nonetheless, everything but gameday shows are suffering.

A #1 vs #3 matchup...frigging Home Shopping Network could've pulled those ratings with that game.

Outside of live games and Not Top 10, I don't give a shite about ESPN but then again I rarely pay attention to sports talk shows anyway, using my own opinion and reading about opinions.

they still do college football well... for now

None of this proves anything about ESPN's future.
"Disney isn't going anywhere" somebody would have said a few years ago. Now ESPN is their only profitable business unit, and eventually when ESPN falls on hard times, the whole mega-conglomerate is going to eat a shite sandwich.

I saw where Clay Travis got all his shite stolen in Atlanta.... LOL. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Yeah, he's trying so hard to make the cord-cutting thing the demise of ESPN. But ESPN is as instutional as the sports they broadcast. They are heavily invested in each other. As long as there's interest in sports, ESPN has an audience.
And Foxsports is nothing but a bug splatter on ESPN's windshield. But he tries to make them look more relevant than they actually are.

ESPN has way overpaid for these games. Maybe not on college football, but I don't see how their NFL or NBA coverage will be profitable.

Umm , politics completely aside- you have to admit that technology poses some huge problems for any media conglomerate that has to purchase content. Especially content that can be pirated and watched on an iPhone in seven seconds Those checks going out of ESPN to their revenue partners are going to shrink because millennials and younger consume media differently. Just saying.

Espn's steaming game is skrong deaux

But they basically own the live games in every sport. It doesn't matter if the filler shows don't do well because they don't have to when you own sports.
Besides the fact that the SECN is viewed by the industry as the most successful launch in cable tv history.

ESPN isn't going anywhere because new streaming services think live sports are overpriced content. Unlike ESPN they often not serve ads with their content and part of the value of live sports is how it gives more value to each ad because you are less likely to DVR sports to watch later.
So ESPN still has a niche, but make no mistake if Amazon or Netflix wanted to play the game they have the money to play.

Yeah..
uh..
I don't think you have a clue about profitable business units at Disney.
I mean, they have these things called Theme Parks.. they are quite profitable. They also make movies, things like Star Wars, The Avengers, Cars, Beauty and Beast.. perhaps you've heard of them?
Their cable division (with ESPN) is the one that is having issues.. primarily due to increasing costs associated with live sports and an overall decline of viewership and advertising revenue.
Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's having issues.

FS1 has a pretty good production.
If ESPN will keep moving their model away from talk and debate shows and more towards live sporting events we all win.

Could it be because ESPN/ABC has the better games?

the only people who think ESPN is in some type of "danger" are those who either dont like ESPN or ride Cray Travis dick
