This is one Vandy fan who wishes James Franklin was still here.

I grew up knowing that Vandy had a golden age in football prior to 1960. I always wondered what changed. Then came James Franklin who blew away the losing culture and mentality in just 3 short years. Momentum was on our side and the fan base was jacked up. "It is when the iron is hot that you strike". But the Progressives at Vandy got their feathers ruffled at the fact football was getting so much attention. They denied the effort to renovate a very antiquated football stadium and made sure Vandy's successor was not SEC caliber.

I have come to the conclusion a bad football program at Vandy is by design. A bunch of left-wing ideologues do not want the reputation as a football school and especially do not want the reputation as a Southern school (the State flag is not even waved on campus). To make matter worse they accept only 1500 student applicants each year in the face of 40,000 total applicants. They filter a potential fan base down to nothing and compound it by making at least 50% non-southern.

PS

Don't try and make the case there is another reason for Vandy's lack of success. Vandy is located in the finest SEC city, in the finest conference, with the finest academic reputation and in close proximity to a recruiting bonanza. Only stooges could mess up that many advantages.

Being real, I'm not sure that's an advantage.

There's plenty to complain about when it comes to politics, but this is a stretch. People of all walks love football.

Vandy is one of the best academic institutions in the country. Being selective like that is what keeps it that way.

they don't want to sacrifice the integrity of the school for the sake of it's athletic teams. there's nothing wrong with that

people who donate big money to vanderbilt, are not donating it to the football program like they are at other schools. why would vanderbilt spend a bunch of money when, even though franklin was taking vandy through their most successful period ever, still couldn't manage to fill their tiny stadium. there wouldn't be a good financial return on that investment. and please take your tin foil hat off for a second. vanderbilt is not attractive enough to get a great coach to come there. franklin made his name and left. other coaches know that you can't build anything sustainable there.

For country music aficionados sure, not so much for urban teenagers that will be hundreds of miles from home.

I think an SEC city is any city in SEC territory where the majority of its inhabitants support SEC schools you dense frick.

If he was still at Vandy, he would have gotten Vandy to Atlanta before A&M and Ole Miss. I truly believe that. I think he and Harbaugh are going to rip Urban a new a-hole in the BIG

Isn't Charlotte an SEC city since the SEC Network is there? I think it's better than Atlanta

If that's Vandy's strategy, it's hard to argue with it. The University is thriving.

Don't get mad because someone pointed out your non sequitur.

I think it was pretty clear given the context of the OP's post that he was talking about finest city with an SEC school in it. He's talking about attracting coaches, athletes, and fans to your school. Why would any SEC school care about what kind of city Atlanta is in this regard? You aren't trying to attract people to Atlanta.

There aren't any S.E.C. schools in Atlanta, brah.

Georgia Tech is in Atlanta and is a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, brah.

The University of Georgia is in Athens, which is not Atlanta, brah..............
